Fog Lamp Mod

On my 99 ex I was able to jump the relay to keep the fog lamps on when the high beams were on. Is there a mod to do the same thing on my 05? I attempted to jump the relay and the fog lamps stay on. Any suggestions?

Jeff

Sadly, it would take significantly more work to do on a 3rd-gen, in particular some rewiring to bypass the stock relay and use a new relay in it's place with the power run directly from the battery.

The way that the 3rd gen fogs work is that the high beams are an on-on relay... When your highs are off, the relay coil is deenergized, and so the power runs from the high-beam relay to the fog light relay, and then to the fogs themselves. When you flick the highs on, the coil energizes, pulling the switch in the relay (and therefore the power) to the high-beam circuit and cutting power to the fogs. The fog relay stays engaged, though, just with no power running through it.

You'd have to wire up another relay that takes power from the battery and uses the signal from the stock switch to energize the coil.

HTH.

maybe in left field, correct me if Im wrong........me installing the fog light factory ford kit on my GF's truck is running thru my mind right now......

Couldnt you just cut the blue/? wire(for the fogs) at the headlight switch and splice to the parking light wire? you wouldnt be able to cut them off technically but it would prolly do the job...

Actually, you would cut the light-blue/black wire coming from the headlight switch and connect that to slot 86 on a relay whose power comes straight from the battery instead of running it to the stock CJB.

Obviously, much easier if you're installing the fogs yourself instead of trying to rewire the stock fogs, but the procedure would be the same for someone who already has fogs installed.

Where did you take the sense wire, then, to tell the ballasts to turn on... the headlight switch wires before they go to the relay box? If so, you did the same thing that I'm suggesting, just using the ballasts in place of relays.
