What 'cooler' is this
I have a cooler, like an oil cooler, mounted on my front crossmember between where my drivers and Passenger Lower control arms mount up to, that crossmember. I was just curious if anyone knew what this cooler was for, cause it is leaking a lil bit. I have the 4.0 OHV with a 5 Speed manual

If it's like mine, it's for the power steering fluid. I guess the rack makes a lot of heat.

Is that what it is? It's like right in front of the Front Diffy, but i havenot traced the lines up into the engine compartment, but it is small, something like 2.5" X 6" and like 2 inches thick? Is it for power steering?
Also, my drivers side tortion bar is completely covered in oil. I looked at the engine and there is no sign of oil anywhere on the bottom of the engine nor am i missing any oil out of the motor. Could the oil change place maybe done this when i got my oil changed, cause it doesnt appear that iit is coming out of my engine? __________________ '06 Tundra TRD, 3" and 33's |

Yomie, I'm pretty sure it's for the power steering. I traced the lines a couple of weeks ago cause I was curious too. Trace the lines up for yourself and I'm pretty sure you'll find that they go into the PS pump.
About the oil on your torsion bar...I don't think it would be motor oil because the filler cap, oil filter, and oil plug are all on the passenger side of the truck. It would be hard to spill the oil onto the driver's side torsion bar from there. Unless one of the oil change guys got his hand all full of oil and then grabbed onto the torsion bar. Could it be brake fluid?? Last time I changed my front pads, I had to force the caliper pistons in, which spilled brake fluid from the master cylinder. It leaked down to the torsion bar area. Check your brake fluid. __________________ '07 XLT Ironman 4.0L 2WD

Yeah, now that you say something, thats a possibility, the top of my brake resivoir is always covered in brake fluid no matter how often i clean it up. I even changed my cap cause i thought it was bad, but it still does it. The funny thing is that my fluid level is never low, ill look into that one

If you just drove through an oil slick big enough to splash it onto your torsion bar, then it would be all over your inner fender and other underbody stuff too. I would look other places for where more oil would have splashed before dismissing it as just driving through a slick.

When your front differential pinion seal leaks, it will throw oil all over your driver's side torsion bar. It would be in a fairly narrow area though (about 12" long) centered around where your driveshaft connects to your differential.
