A semi-stock daily driver and Turdle seems like a nice combo, and would greatly simplify things. When it comes to having multiple vehicles, having one that's always running and one you can mess with whenever because it's the toy is definitely where it's at. Kind of strange to have the 91-94 X be the daily driver, though.

What shape are the lower nuts/washers in on the rearmost body mounts? The washers on mine rusted off, and the ones under the front doors are starting to go too...

Well, call me a liar I guess.
I just could not scrap this quite yet. Dangit, it is just too cool to throw away.

So, without further explanation,

I located a 94 ohv engine with --suposedly 43,000 miles , at least the tag says so
compressions were noted, #5 is the lowest at 186psi, with the rest all around 189-193

This engine spins freely. It isn't much to look at, but I do think it will get us down the road while I do something with one of the other blocks lying around. At leat that is the intention.

Sparksaflyin came by to lend a hand. We were able to get the replacement engine dropped in without hurting anything. I have the center-dowel transmission holes bolted tight, and the rest are all started. The torque converter holes are all lined up and the bolts came through, of course, but I have not yet installed the nuts. We basically got it all set and called it quits for the day. I would say it took about 2 good hours once we got the engine up and over the bay.

Halfway thru though, we needed to pull the upper intake manifold. There is just no way to squeeze an engine leveler rig in there with it installed, and , still get the engine back far enough to go over the motor mount stud.
Oh, and, that stupid engine, transmission spacer plate. I wanted to throw that thing, tie it in a knot, --something. I swear it must have fallen out about 57 times

Tomorrow is supposed to be nice. I really hope to have this thing running by Saturday

Whoever saw this coming, please raise their hand?

Glad your keeping it Jon. Seems a waste to scrap it.

For next time.. Leave it out until you have the transmission lined up and almost flush (with only the dowel bolts in). Then put the spacer in from the bottom.. As long as the trans is level it will pretty much slide in..

ok
today I had to run some errands and got a late start. We ran into some confusion over the transmission bell housing to block bolts, but I think we got it sorted out, and torqued down good. I also got the torque converter bolts torqued.

The sheriff cam by to do the inspection. They only compare the VIN to a stolen vehicle database, then collect 10.00.Since it passed I decided to cut the day short, and go to the courthouse to make this thing legal. Woo hoo it has a Kansas plate now.
I also had to go scrounge up an upper plennum gasket. Still on track I think.
