Lots of posts...check your transmission control module...common problem...

Where would I find this and how do I "check it?" is it an expensive fix ?
Thanks for the advice:thumbsup:

Haynes manuals are a great investment. Mine was behind the passenger kick panel...unplug plug in...it is a $200 part so make sure (Motorcraft TM-101)...if you don't hear clicking..then it is this or the switch...The TCM goes bad very easy..jump starts...even disconnecting the battery has been know to power surge it when reconnected.

Dealer part and specific to vehicle.

Sounds like it could be the 4x4 computer behind the glovebox. Pretty common for them to fail and I have had to replace mine as well. Another easy way is to make sure that your #17 & #18 fuses are not blown. They are located under the hood in the fuse panel on the drivers side. Also refer to the owners manual to see what other fuses may be under the dash on the drivers side.

-So in short-

1) Check all fuses.

2) Then take the glove box out and replace with a new computer. I am sure most places would be willing to let you try it out to make sure it works. Expect to pay upwards of $100 bucks or more.

Wow great response fellas, much appreciated too! I have no owners manual for this truck so I had a friend check the fuses under the hood, I will check again and also, the truck sat for 3 months so yes I had to boost it . it took a few tries but it started, it was after that I found I had no 4 wheel drive ?

Module description

I went too the Ford dealer he pulled up the part according to my VIN# and said it was $434.oo , he quickley showed me the description on the computor which said it was on the passenger kick plate side. I took mine off and looked and did not see what I remembered the module to look like ?
There is a metal box that might be 6"x 6" at the front of the area up in the top corner, there is a black cylindrical thing with a red top on it closest to the door and a white plastic " cube " shaped thing almost under the dash board.....are any of these what i,m looking for cause the Ford guys are not too helpful if you know what I mean !

All is well !

I went too the wreckers and there was,nt a module to be found, so back to Ford and the parts guy gave me a deal on a new module I paid $366 plus tax so I saved $100 .
I went home and installed it and worked like a charm ! Thanks for all the help guys on diognosing the problem.
