Well, now that I know what the purpose of this hole is for, reply and provide content to the subject, and let us know how you use this area for yourself.

Original post:
Hello.

I have ripped out my carpet, seats, center console, and all plastics in an extensive attempt at detailing the interior of my newly purchased 99'.

While in the process, I have come across this "hole" that sits just in front of the center console lid. It is oval in shape, and seems to have no purpose. Looks as if it would be a perfect spot for a hand parking break, but of course that would not be the case. The only other thing I could think of its purpose would be for folded up maps perhaps?

I temporarily placed the cup-holders in the console for the purpose of the picture.

Any help would be great, although this is in no way a pressing matter. I had attempted to search "oval hole center console", without any luck of course hence my post.

Thank you for your efforts in helping me figure this out.

It is for tissues. You can buy small boxes that will fit in it. The holder comes out from the inside of the consul.

Hahaha! Nice. Wow, what a chick car. All these cup-holders, sun-visors, and now this? Simply amazing. I never would have thought.

Well, I was thinking about installing the "brown wire mod" rocker toggle switch in the change tray so you would have to reach your finger in the oval hole to switch the auto 4wd on/off. However, due to my wifes allergies, I just may take advantage of this, and use it for it's intended purpose.

These small boxes of tissue you mention, are they found at Ford dealerships, or perhaps there is a specific brand/size everyone purchases?

If nobody uses this area for it's intended purpose, could others chime in and mention what they use this area for?

Thanks for the quick reply. It was highly appreciated.

i have never bought any. I am pretty sure I have seen the right size at Walmart though. I would just take the holder out and bring it to the store with me. My wife stuffs trash in it and it really aggravates the hell out of me.

I would also like to see some others peoples ideas for this because I do not use it and would like to see it used for something better.

Just throw some restaurant napkins in there. The hole can be covered with similar plastic trim and possibly hold things you wouldnt want people to find. Weapons, stereo faceplates, possibly gps screens and other crap while parked in "shady" neighborhoods.

Keep thread alive for more comments

Yes, indeed. Try to keep the topic alive so others may mention and share as to how they use that area themselves.

My wife does the same thing! In that hole, in the door storage, in the floor...I've even found her **** in the GLOVEBOX. I banned her from my ex for awhile, and threatened to ban her from parking in the garage. Didn't help...

When I bought my ex, there was an empty box of tissues in the hole...I was convinced it was an e-brake lever hole, and actually talked myself into believing that my truck had been totaled and Frankensteined back togeter...

I saw another thread on here about what everyone else uses the tissue box hole for. There were guns, cb radios, aux. lights, etc. Because it's kind of hidden and not many know how to access it, I ususally store my GPS in it.:)

My wife is good about not trashing up a vehicle. I wish I could say the same for my parents.

My parent's bought a new Jetta less than a year ago and after a month my wife told me they had already trashed it up.

Salt packets, toothpicks, coins in the center console pockets, a hair brush, fast food napkins in the door pockets, etc. Unbrella, fast food bags, and other junk in the floorboards.

Not to mention they haul their Corgi around with them so the car is full of dog hair. These have to be the worst dog I have ever seen for shedding. The only dog I'll let ride in any of my cars is my Stafordshire terrier (aka pit bull). They shed somewhat but hair doesn't fly off them.

About 10 years ago I borrowed my parent's Dodge Caravan to take to Canada. It took me longer to clean the inside of the van up than the outside. I'm thinking, I'm not riding in all of this filth.

I dragged a trash can over to it and started throwing all sorts of crap into it. After all was said and done, an hour later the trashcan was full. And of course dog hair from their German Shepherds.

Dad used to be good about keeping his vehicles clean. I don't know what has gotten into him.

I thought about using that area to mount my Sirius satellite radio but couldn't see the display all that great.

In 1995 I ran out of those tissues, since then I have used the holder for stock spare tire.

Perfect Maglight mini holder. :D

Paraphroe, Great Idea, I have a few of those and always looking for a flashlight.

Offtopic, Where Did You Get that Center Console????? And where can I get one?????

That is EXACTLY what I am looking for.

Paraphroe,

A few minutes of checking out your truck (very nice by the way), and your pic shows redline leather goods. I just emailed them to see if they can do a console cover in Black and willow green like yours. It looks like it fits really well, I will do some more searching on the forum. U happy with the cover?

Thanks

Jason,

Spent 15 more seconds doing a quick search and found redline in stickied vendors. I have been on this site a long time, dont know how I forgot about them as vendors.... CRS syndrome is getting worse. Already heard back from Maciek, not sure if he can match the willow green yet. It is an odd color.

GRN,

Yup, you found them - Redline. Great product and Maciek is a good guy. Had it for a while now and really love it - still looks brand new. I wipe it down with leather protector every once in a while. Now, to just get the rest of the console out and dyed black....:o

Briway,

Those covers were like $20 each from Pepboys or Walmart or something. They're not great quality, but I got them because they're waterproof. I bought them right before I went mudding a few times to protect my seats from mud and water. I'm thinking about replacing them with high quality ones from Wet Okole, but I have a few other things on my rig I need to take care of first.

Oh, I take it that they're one size fits all then and therefore don't fit very well?
