4-Wheelin in Long Island NY (pics)

yeah when i went it was snowing and the little ponds were partially frozen over but i broke through them i went around the side a little and had no problem pushing through it i know i was bottomed out a little the 3rd gen that was riding behind me went around the ponds with the shortcuts..how is it without snow there is it worth getting a few guys to head over there. by any chance was there a big tree in the pond you got stuck in like in the third pic...one guy warned me about that but he did say theres a way around it but thats where the other ex almost flipped from the slick ground. sorry to hear about the trouble but we know what we get into when we leave the pavement no risk no fun u know...there is a couple of different paths to check out there, when you get the truck fixed we should check it out...keep me posted, tom where are you from again..

I'm from West Islip here on Long Island its about 40 miles away or so from exit 71. I know people got stuck in there because once i was stuck and was trying to wedge trees under my wheels i saw a lot lost shoes in the so called puddle that looks more like a lake. It was pretty funny though there was some lifted f250 diesel and he was runnings over some trees with his grill guard with the path around the puddle lake i was in

haaa thats great, shoes..thats right you posted you were from west islip thats me not looking im just waiting to install my AAL but my useless jack started spuing hydrolic oil all over my driveway im in the market for a new one just cant seem to find one that dosent seem cheap and that has enough lift they are all meant for regular cars. once i get my hands on one their going on

I got my truck back apparently it was a bad alternator which was the reason it wasn't starting. I had an aftermarket warranty on the truck with a garage so it only costed me 100 bucks but it was a 500 job :) I plan on going back here with some people when it gets really warm out so its not so muddy and at least some of the water in places will have dried up

This is where my stupidity brought me to EXPLORE the bottom of this puddle lake lol This is before I realized there was a path a little ways back before going towards this

sweet =p was it a drop off or just fast desent?

Well i was weary to go through it at first then started out slow and its not very deep on the outsides of it but theres a huge rut i sunk right into so my front tires were in and had to get pulled out. I would of went faster but It was my first time on the trails and I didn't want to suck up water in my intake

That's what snorkels are for. :D I dunno if I would trust going through that even if I had a buddy.

I'm from Rockaway Beach (Queens) and I read that you are looking to plan a ride some where. I've got a 98 Explorer Sport and I'm lovin it. It's street and I'm not sure how much or how far I dare to take it 4 wheeling But I'll try almost anything twice. Maybe one of you guys can teach an old dog some new tricks.

Whats up Far Rock welcome good to see another from queens... do you mean its stock because no street truck is meant for a offroading, we run the risk of light to moderate damage. Pick yourself up a CB radio and aentenna check out the communications forum. yeah soon we will be planning a run together either down to jersey or out east keep your eyes open for a response to this thread im still itching to go

Yeah it's stock but it is an EX 4x4 right ??? j/k I've had it for a year now and the only work I did to it was shocks (stock) breaks, tune up and tires. (General Grabbers) I've been itching to find out just how off road this truck is good for. I have to tell you I am intimidated by the pics I've seen here. But I have to start some where right? I love my ex (I know that sounds lame) and it's bout time I started playing with it.

surprisingly i road my ex bone stock offroad for a year and it does great (just know your limits) and now im only a hair above stock and i manage to run with some of the bigger trucks. as long as your 4x4 and 4 low work you'll be ok. as for a trail get together i saw wharton is sure looking inviting in this nice weather so whenever you guys can get down here is fine with me.

Yeah ^ The ex stock is a really capable truck it is the perfect size not too big yet big enough to carry all the crap we carry some trails arent meant for full size trucks plus the turning radius on the ex is amazing it turns better than my nissan maxima by about 2-3 feet...just make sure the 4x4 works i dont have 4 wheel low (yet :D) an I do just fine but 4 wheel low is a great benefit. If we get a crew together at least one iof us will have tow straps, Shackles, Hi lift jack/come along and whatever else is needed to get each other out of a mess...If im not mistaken the sport has Tow hooks Check out the offroad forum on here and read the offroad checklist sticky it is very helpful on stuff to bring with you a bunch of stuff i keep in the truck at all times JIC. Yeah The PINES look like alot of fun Im in the process of moving right now so I may be tied up for a little while but even still if you were gunna plan something keep in touch i may not be able to resist....

i have 2 straps 1 rope and a chain(extra measure in case) and a come a long in my truck at all times with my full tool set (ratchet set, and typical tool box.) but where you moving to?

sounds like a plan... only not this weekend. I've got stuff I have to take care of. I do wanna get some mud on my tires tho, so if we can do this next weekend i'm down.
So where are you moving to and when. You're not moving to Jersey are you? J/K.

ok well try and get as many ppl as possible

I like where this is going. I've been itching to get some trail time since the only 'offroading' I've done is at Smith Point and some muddy parking lots.

well yea gather up yer buddies and its time to get dirty most likely gonna be next weekend =D
