Replace Navigation DVD?

We just bought an '06 Mounty with factory Nav/6CD changer. The DVD appears to be original.

Is it recommended to update these DVD after a certain amount of time? I suppose it's up to the individual, but just looking for opinions.

I am assuming that your system has the separate DVD unit in the rear that holds the Navigation disc?
If you have a disc that contains all of the MAP data, then yes it is recommended that you upgrade the MAPS every so many years. If you really know where you are going, and you just have the GPS for occasional stuff, then it wouldn't be a really big problem. But, if you relied on the GPS all the time for work or something like that... I would recommend trying to stay up to date with the maps.

It is all personal preference. The worst thing that could happen is that you could be on a new road that either didn't exist or has been modified since the maps were release. I always love freaking out my portable TOM-TOM buy taking it on the boat with me and telling it to guide me home (Yeah, I get amused easily).

Be advised that sometimes depending on who released the MAP data for the NAV-unit, you could be looking at ~$20 to upgrade to a more recent MAP pack.

My head unit has a 6-disc CD changer up top. But to access the map DVD, the front face is motorized and slides down/out, revealing a second slot, dedicated to this DVD. I didn't realize it until yesterday when I was playing around in the menus.

I believe I saw a Pioneer icon on the disc, and the screen had an 800 number for reordering. I suppose I can call, get the price, then think about it.

Thanks!
