Mountaineer Hood won't stay latched

I have an '03 Mountaineer.

The hood will not stay latched.

If you close it, it seems latched, but you can lift up on it and it becomes unlatch..any ideas?

Sounds like bad hood latch. Try lubing it up well and see if the relese lever moves freely in the latch.

does the hood cable bind open, or not retract in when you open it?

That is what I did.. Worked..

Seems the latch was just stuck and wouldn't come over to lock down the hood..

Wipe off(salt and grime) and sprayed with WD40... Have to see how it goes..

I have the same issue with my 01 sport trac, the hood refuses to stay latched. The release lever under the dash seems very loose. I will grease it up and see if that helps. Thanks.

Go ahead and give it a go with WD-40 or the like. Should free things up!!
