Roku Xs--Evo4g-cut off bloodsuckers

I finally did it guys. Cut off my cable, internet, and home phone. My monthly bundle ran around 200 bucks after taxes, equipment rental fees, yadi yadi i can go on forever with the surcharges. I picked up a roku xs from wally world 106 bucks after taxes. I run all my wireless from my sprint evo hotspot service. Not to shabby all for 160 a month. That's three unlimited cell phones with 4g plans and the hotspot(wifi) package. I stream everything now. Anyone else cut off the ripoff cable companies. Anyone else do something like this.

Extra 200 bucks a month hehehehe. Mods here I come

I am in the process of cutting my cable, and I picked up Roku a couple months ago for $90 or so. I look very forward to saving money. My cable, internet, and phone is costing about $150/month. Ironically, though, I just got a job installing DirecTv satellite dishes.

My brother is a cable guy and he put me on this method. He said many people are going this route. The cable companies won't change there ways unless it hurts there bottom line. He told me that for cable, internet, and phone subscribers the the overhead cost is about 19 dollars a month. That includes paying the broadcasters, equipment, and installer based on a one year contract. Everything after that is profit. That's just sick.

Just make sure the connection your using doesnt have or wont soon have a cap. There are very few unlimited connections out there. Most are capped, throttled or charge overages.

Yea, Mark I checked with sprint a few months back that. They are the only mobile company that I know of that gives you true unlimited, and they claim to never throttle your usage.

...After years with Sprint I had their full original unlimited package and I caught them throttling me (between the hours of 8-10 pm) so I dropped them after 14 years..

..Went with Virgin unlimited (powered by Sprint) and after 2 months they said they started throttling but, I pay half of what I did with Sprint..

..I had cut off my satellite and landline service years ago when I found I was paying higher prices every six months and I'm never home to watch it and my landline I never used except for an occasional fax, (remember those?)

..What is Roku and what are the benefits of this over watching say, Hulu?

I like the idea of Roku for TV.. We just need to see if there are enough channels we want. I have a solution for the TV shows we can't get and I have the option of using a slingbox to get Cable to the house if we really want it. But, There just isn't much on tv that we want to watch anymore.. For a one time $50 to $100 roku payment it just might be worth it.

And for anyone that wants to use mobile broadband but is stuck on a low cap/overage system.. Check out Millenicom. Its not quite unlimited but with up to a 50GB cap its not bad. It is however a data plan, no phone via them.

Roku is essentially an app box you can watch your Netflix, stream Pandora, YouTube, and many others. As well as many tv shows from Abc,CNN and others.

..The reason I ask is, most of the online services are now starting to charge or putting their premium content on delayed viewing (by months) service..

Mark thee is no extra charge for Roku. You just need an internet service which I get from my phone. There are some premium services you can order but there not from Roku. Thee are many free thingsr on there already. Check your local promos sometimes they give you premium subscribed content with a purchase of a Roku or other Roku like systems. Trust me if your sick of giving cable companies your hard earned money you will be happy with this service.
