here is my 97 mounty i just picked up. plans are....

1)4406 swap
2)hp d30 out of cherokee
3)soa rear and radius arm front on coils
4)33-35" mt's on 15x8-15x10 steel wheels
5)custom bumpers and sliders and roof rack

here it is as of now...work hopefully will start soon..

odom stopped at 219025...lol. but the way it drives,its power and looks i would not be surprised if its rebuilt....just have no definite proof

i just a few things to it and it woke it up pretty good. cleaned the mass ait meter,new air filter and removed the air silencer...nice improvement...tomorrow getting a seafoam treatment

i really like this mountaineer. the v8 is great...now i just gotta get it lifted and locked and built....did do some work to it, the running boards are gone. and polished the headlights.

Just taking a stab at it, but I think the speedo powers the odo/trip meter. So if one works and the other doesnt it could be your instrument cluster.

Might compare your issues with this post too

I like the idea of 35" tires, mainly because I think they'll take me to all the places I feel comfortable going. 33s got me to plenty of places but I think 35s would let me follow a few of my friends with taller tires without going the huge axle, huge tire route.

Also I just love the look of a mild explorer build with 35x12.50's.

yh 35's will look best and give best ground clearence,we shall see when it comes time to get tires. i found the info i needed for the odom right after i posted. i have a few ideas to fix it and if it works i will post it being these parts are not available.
