Where is the TSS (Turbine Speed Sensor) located on a 1996 explorer? Is this the sensor that bolts into the top of the pumpkin on the rearend? or is it located on the tranny?

anyone have a ford part number for this??

thanks a bunch

I think it's located inside the tranny and needs a tear down to get to. I take it your throwing a code?

ive been throwing a code for the last 2 years - PO741 (TQR CUT CLT CIR PER OFF)

I can drive the truck every day for 5 month, then when i take this one stretch of highway, the O/D starts flashing and the tranny starts clunking at low speed. Turn the key off and back on and its fine.

I was just reading something last night that someone said they had a similar issue and it was the TSS sensor... but that is code 715 or something like that so for the hell of it i pulled the codes again this morning and it was the PO741...

Was just wondering where the TSS was on the explorer.... cause there is a sensor in the top of the pumpkin and reading around that net, thats where other ford truck TSS are located....

On the rear diff, there is an ABS sensor. P0741 is Torque Converter Clutch System stuck off. Can be fairly serious...how does your ATF look & smell? I have had the same problem, same code, recurring on a same stretch of road, just like you said. Did not end well.

ATF smells and looks fine..... Maybe when i have some time ill look into it further... like i said, its been doing this for a while
about 1 1/2 years ago i did a rebuild valve body and all new accumulators cause it was doing funky things. Also had a bad TPS sensor. After replacing the TPS the tranny worked so much better. It it blows it blows...
