Explorer vs Infinity JX -

Infinity is going nutz in the media, (tv and all the car mags), about how their JX model will actually automatically hit the brakes when backing up if it senses something coming or there’s an obstruction. Big deal. Doesn’t Ford’s ‘BLIS’ do almost the same thing? Only thing is, I don’t believe the Ford will hit the brakes. Or does it??? What would it take to make it apply the brakes? Probably only a softwear revision!
Hmmmmmm …

The Explorer will only apply braking action with the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) on if the situation warrants and only until the speed drops to 16 mph, then you are on your own.
The BLIS will only warn you of objects to the side of the vehicle that are within its range. When backing up, the Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) system will indicate if the object is on the right or left by displaying the warning in the message centre along with a series of tones. It won't apply any braking action.

I saw that as well and thought that while the claim was literally true, it was kind of silly given the City Safety system of Volvo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DBf8GBVmME and the Explorer's BLIS and cross traffic detection.

Not exactly a revolutionary leap.

What about the Collision Warning w/ Brake Support? How does that work? Ive set the actual alert off a million times but brake before the system can do anything.

The Collision Warning does not apply any braking action. It is a good thing that you did. What it will do is precharge the brakes for an emergency stop if required. The only braking action the Explorer will do on its own is if the Adaptive Cruise Control is on and the vehicle ahead slows down quickly or if you have the ACC on and approach a vehicle slowing for a turn, etc. In these cases, it is likely that the Collision alert will also sound and flash.
