Sweet! Welcome to the forums! Ok so I'm looking for a hew Head unit for my 2000 mountianeer that has a CD, an AUX input preferably a USB. And radio of course. Can you recommend one that won't cost an arm and a leg?

Hey Vlad,

I have a 2008 Explorer Eddie Bauer and I'm looking to upgrade the sound system.

I want to add in some subwoofers but I don't want a big box taking up the cargo area. Do you have any recommendations for stealth options or a way to keep the subs and amp somewhat hidden and out of the way?

I'm not looking for bass that can be heard from half a mile away just a nice upgrade from stock.

Also if you could recommend some new speakers that would be great too.

Hey BigJoe,

It will depend on a few things, there are quite a few radios out there. Are you looking for a full faced DD radio like JVC KW-R500 or something smaller like the Kenwood KDC-X395

Both fit and are a really good bang for the buck head units that offer exactly what you want. I recommend either one of them and they review very well. They come with free install kits depending on what the factory radio was. You can check on this link to find out which harness you need.

Hey Alex,

There is a JL Audio Stealth enclosure that would work but it's pricey. It's well worth it because they match it up perfectly to the vehicle and subwoofer is tuned just right for the box. It will be loud if you want it to be. so that may not be a good option for you.
If you can build a box that would be better, cause you can fit any sub you want to. Like an 8 inch Polk. Both these options would need an amplifier that you just hide under the seat.
last option would be this shallow enclosed sub that you can just lay down under the seat. It has a built in amp so it's very compact. All are very good options depending on how far you want to go with it.

As for the speakers, you have 6x8 openings. Without knowing your preferences or what radio you are using I would go with our customer favorite Infinity REF-8602cfx.

I hope that helps. PM me if you have any questions or additional info.

I've looked at the JL Stealth box and while I would love to have that, it's just a little out of my price range.

I like that powered subwoofer. It looks easy to install, and it looks like it would fit great under the seat. Can 2 of them be ran together to have one under each seat?

Yup, sure can. You would just run two power wires or use a 4ga thick power wire and a distribution block with 8ga.

Welcome Vlad!

It's very cool to see you also have a Explorer S/T so you know your way around them a little bit.

Hey vlad just a quick question. I have a set of alpine spr 60cs in my front door and run them and my rear speakers off a pdx f4. If I bought an item such as the audiocontrol 2xs would that allow me to bi-amp the spr 60cs?

Yes, that will work if you are looking for more control and adjustments. The Alpine crossover already has a 7-level tweeter adjustment but if you want more control than that, then I would go with the AudioControl 2XS. So you will independently power the tweeter and woofer to bi-amp and you will use four channels to power each of them. Which means you will have get another two channel amp to power the rear speakers. You would start from the head unit to the 2XS then the amplifier then to the speakers. You will not use the Alpine passive crossover and instead use the 2XS active crossover hooked up before the amp. The amplifier is rated at 100 watts x 4 which might be a little over kill but the speakers and AudioControl crossover should be able to handle it.

Thanks for the response vlad. I will just run the rear speakers off the HU not really too concerned with them. Two more questions for you, 1)should I crossover the tweeters at the frequency alpine crosses them at or should I go up to 4000hz or is this more of a personal taste thing, 2)also just making sure, When I wire the woofer I will use the bypass terminal that is on the back as it shows in the manual for the speaker?

Yup. it is personal preference. I would start at 3,000 hz and see how you like it. And yes, you would connect the woofer using the connection labeled "Bypass terminal" (For active crossover system only). I think you got it. Let me know how you like it.

Vlad, I was wondering if you had a good suggestion for an amp. My brother has 2 1100watt audiobahn subs (i actually need to check to see why the one was not working, they were given to us) and he needs an amp. I was going to wire in a full system with a 5 channel, but i'm not sure the budget will allow that. Do you have a good mono amp, or maybe 5 channel that won't crush the bank, and has a bass control knob?

Yeah for sure, The best bang for the buck option is the MTX JH805 5 channel. It comes with the Bass knob and plenty of power. As for the mono amp the best deal near that power range would be the Kenwood refurbished KAC-9105D. Tons of power and half the price of the new one but no bass knob. If that's more important to get the knob than I would go with the Kicker 11DX10001 amp. It's powerful and has good adjustments.
