Home Security - Surveillance

I'm interested in installing a surveillance system to monitor the exterior of my house and part of the street directly in front of my house where my vehicles are parked. I live close to railroad tracks and the next community over is full of kids who travel the tracks and our street to get to wherever they're going. Several months ago, I detailed one of my vehicles and came out the next day to find a chocolate bar smeared down the side... I hope that was chocolate. This past weekend, I detailed my Mustang for a show and I came out this morning to leave for work and found someone's spent chew smeared all over the driver side window, door, and front fender. They even tried to stuff it in the car at the top of the window. I bought this house in February of 2011 and my wife and I keep to ourselves. I don't even know my neighbors' names. I have no idea who is doing this, but I would like to catch them on video. I've invested a lot of time and money in car care products and it's a shame some people have no respect for others or their property. I'm just thankful that we're looking to relocate soon.

Opinions on surveillance systems would be great. I would prefer something that works well in low/no light conditions as I believe this is happening in the evening or overnight.

EDIT:

I forgot to mention that I would need three cameras at minimum and a maximum of five.

Sorry to hear about the mischief happening to your vehicles. I have a couple of DLINK IP cameras set in the windows on the front of my apartment for the same reason. They are connected to my local network and can be view from any computer connected to my network. The only problem is that they do not work in no/low light.

I am looking to upgrade. I have a friend that has an X-10 system in his house and have considered that equipment. www.x10.com. He is very happy with it.

I have been looking at some systems at Tiger Direct. www.tigerdirect.com. I will post up the particular systems I have been looking at when I get home tonight.

Hope this helps out.

You want IR systems.. You can get a DVR setup with outdoor IR cameras with motion sensor. I have a multiple camera setup at my place running a linux based dvr. It records 24/7 along with sending email alerts when motion is detected. It comes in handy especially when your getting items delivered on a daily basis for business

Ben is right, the IR will allow for night vision. The system I was looking at is from www.newegg.com and not www.tigerdirect.com.
