Add me to the crazy list. I would love to have the 3.5L eco boost and added horsepower to my limited over the 2nd row console.

Don't get me wrong.... I would take the 3.5L Ecoboost in the Limited over the second row console..... Just not the Sport package otherwise... Nice again, mean no evil or disrespect to anyone, just a personal preference.

On the Ford.ca website it states that the recommended fuel for the Sport is 'Premium'. Here in Canada, that is close to 70 cents a gallon more than regular.

Guess it should be 3.5L "Boost", since there is no "Eco" on the wallet.....

Just saw this thread -- so I went over to Ford and looked at the Explorer Sports. I thought it would be a 2-door truck like mine -- but then it seems automakers only make 4-door vehicles these days, as I suppose they sell better than 2-door vehicles.

Anyway, my 94 Sport is still going strong, what a beast of a truck it has been.

According to the spec sheet http://media.ford.com/images/10031/2...port_Specs.pdf it runs on regular, you may opt to use premium for added performance.

If it TRULY is all about "performance" than why would you NOT use Premium fuel?

Welcome to the Forum 13Sport.
As I mentioned, I just stated what the Ford.ca website showed in regards to recommended fuel type. I assume that according to the info you provided a link to, that unless you use premium, you likely won't get the advertised power and mileage figures.

Peter

Yeah, I don't think I'll be able to resist hitting the premium button

If the computer is controlling timing and boost based on detonation, then I would assume you will get the same mileage regardless of type of fuel, you will likely get better hp/torque on premium. However if you are getting better HP/Torque you are less likely to need to use the accelerator to come to speed, so you might see a gain in mileage based on that. But let's be honest, who is going to be able to keep their foot off the gas pedal?

I can only speculate that the majority of my driving will be on premium and I have to assume I'll be getting far less than the estimated MPG based on my driving habits

If it were simply a 2nd row console, I could deal with it. But when I cant get things like the following on a Sport:
  1. Heated steering wheel
  2. 110V outlet
  3. Power tilt/tele wheel
  4. Lane departure warning system
  5. Universal garage door opener
  6. Active park assist
  7. Rain sensing wipers
  8. 3rd row Powerfold 50/50 seats
  9. HID headlamps
  10. Auto high beams
  11. Sterling gray metallic paint
there's just too many features to give up to gain a turbo. Maybe there will be an aftermarket turbo available!

I agree 100%. Would not trade for the Sport (even if it was even swap). Just me, though.

Items 2, 3 and 5 from your list are all included with the 402A Package on the Sport.

Ugh, then Ford really needs to proof read their darn features pages online, because all those features I listed state 'not available' on their website.

Yeah I have seen that, which then made me even more unsure as to what is really on the car. I would have hoped that the 2 sections for the Sport would be identical on the listings of features.

I love my Limited, but I would take the 3.5L and rims from the Sport. I prefer the grill on the Limited over the Sport model.
