I need help with a camera to mac to online problem

I download photos from my camera to a macbook, then use Preview to size and adjust the photos. I then "Save As" to the desktop so I can then post them online.
The pics will post fine on facebook, but when I try to post them here or other forums, they show up as rotated sideways. I've tried saving them rotated left and right and even upside down, to have them show correctly, but it doesn't help.
I asked a mac nerd friend, and he said it's a quirk of the Preview feature, but didn't know what I can do about it.
Any ideas?

What I do is just upload my pics to photobucket. Then I post them to forums through that. Its easy to upload to photobucket especially because I can upload straight from my phone. I never really liked the way iPhoto works on anything other than showing pics on my Mac

I've never had that problem, but I use iPhoto as well. You can rotate, edit and crop in there. Then I export them (options for size and quality during this) and save those to the desktop.

Do you upload to iPhoto then open them in Preview? Do you upload them to the forum's gallery or photobucket or?

Says the dude with garage mahal. FWIW, Apple's share is somewhere around 15% now I think.

Perhaps you might want to try GIMP:

It's free and a decent, albeit much lower powered, alternative to PS.

Yeah, I guess they do go to iphoto and I open them in Preview.
And I know how to edit there, resize, rotate, adjust color, etc. I use the Tools menu for that.
How are you exporting them to desktop, Colin? I use File>Save as, then drag from Preview to desktop...

Any idea why pics show fine on facebook?

P.S. I'm not a Mac guy. My PC is unusable right now, and I've been using my wife's Mac.

No idea why they show fine in some pages and not others. Editing in iPhoto is pretty easy. I'd suggest using with a pic that you don't really care about and mess with the sliders to see what does what.

To export from iPhoto it's (File > Export) and then you can pick where you want them to go. This is the window that pops up from Exporting. After you click "Export" it lets you pick where to save the pic.

so it appears, iphoto, and iphones save orientation in the picture, when edited, that does not get changed, which is why its never right side up. when uploaded to the net.

Interesting. Maybe I need to rotate them while still on the camera, if I can.

Do you think facebook has some sort of auto-rotational thing when uploading to it, as my pics show correct on there...

If you ask Apple they will tell you that there is nothing wrong with their image file. It's the rest of the world that's sideways.

Kind of like the Flash thing

Sorry just can't help but poke at Apple.

my 4s i can edit them on a pc, and, they still upload never straight.

if i upload off the phone to the source, they are perfect.

so if i goto imgurl and upload it, off my phone, perfect picture, if i copy the picture to my pc, it looks fine, uploads to the right, if i edit it and rotate it 90 degrees its to the left.

I'm going to not use ms pain but actually photoshop and save it as a jpg or some other format to see if this persists.

Weird. I don't have that problem at all either straight from my 4s or uploading into iPhoto then exporting. Interesting.
