Going to tear it apart tomorrow, working theory is pieces of timing guide got in the oil pickup, causing top end oil starvation, which caused at least one of the cams to seize. It has been rattling for awhile, didn't have time to deal with so took a chance.

Sounds like you've got no compression.

Nirvana? A clear case of vehicular suicide. The poor car just couldn't take any more! :D

Good luck with the repairs!

This thing has a lot of other little problems. Looking into some 5.0 explorers. Fuel economy pretty much the same with a much better power plant.

What is your photo of?

Chain may have broken as well, I'm assuming that's a picture of the valve cover.

Yep. That's the drivers side valve cover. Chain is not broken. Only thing I can think of is can seized so quickly that slack in the chain hit the valve cover and cracked it. Going to pull valve covers tomorrow and see what it looks like

Well? Pics or it didn't happen. :)

I have busted the passenger side valve cover before, apparently caused by a valve that stuck open while truck was in a lengthy storage period. Shot the cam follower right up into the cover cracking it wide open. I put it back together 75,000 miles ago, still rollin'.
