I guess the factory sub is only 6" big, from the posts I have read recently. Has anyone scrapped the factory sub and gone to a stealth box that fits in the same area? I read those come with a 10" sub. Is it worth changing this out and what problems are there with this....thanks.

In my 92 XLT (4 door) I replaced the cargo area in the right rear with the MTX thunderform. I got it with their subwoofer. I use a Sony XPLOD-754 (I think thats the model number) which is 4x75. I run 2 channels for the front 4 speakers and the other 2 bridged for the sub. In bridged mode with a 4 ohm sub I get around 200 Watts. When I had the MTX 5000 speaker (the one that comes in the thunderform box) I could bottom out the speaker. I replaced that speaker with a DAT (Diamond Audio Technology) 10" sub. This new sub is good to 500 watts rms and has a magnesium composite cone. I have found that this new speaker can handle the power much better. If you are looking at other speakers keep in mind the MTX box is .65 cubic feet.

You should be able to get a Box for the corner for around $249 (U.S.). The MTX thunderform and the Q-logic Q-custom boxes are around the same price. The other one I looked at was the rockford one. The Rockford Fosgate Box is fiberglass (instead of molded Plastic) and requires you to cut a hole in it for the speaker wire cup.

One final note... The DAT 10" speaker (www.diamondaudio.com) did not fit correctly into the MTX box. I had to make a spacer to go between the speaker and the indent for the speaker.. The speaker frame was about 1mm too wide. With the Spacer the Speaker still fits well into the cargo area. The only problem I have is that the New sub will move far enough out to hit the cover for the sub. This isn't really a problem but I can knock off the cover if I play a bass Cd.
