wont start...lock broke

Ok.
So today I was just about to go to an auto parts store to pick something up. I got in the x and attempted to start her. There was a cracking sound from the lock in the steering wheel. Now the ignition is permanently on and the car won’t start.
The key turns in the lock free and will not start the motor.

On further investigation after removing some covers around the lock, the plastic arm that looks like it pushes some sort of button further down in the shaft has snapped!
From what I can tell I am going to have to replace the whole steering wheel and the lock.
I do not have a chip in my key so I don’t need to worry about getting a new set of keys.

I have managed to start the truck buy holding a screwdriver on the terminals on the starter solenoid. And i stop the truck by removing the Ignition fuse under the hood.

Has anyone had this problem before? What would I need to replace here?

CAN

I dont know how to help about your lock...especially since its on a RHD vehicle Tom....But:

I would not suggest doing the ignition fuse trick too much...I think you can fry your alternator by cutting off the igniton while it is still running normally...

Mine has aparently had the same problem last night. It is not quite as bad as your. I am hoping I can just replace the ignition switch. I'll have to look at it today.

Shouldn't you just need an ignition switch? This is my second time on a Gen. I. You will get a new set of keys with the switch. I looked up the repair and on my X you half to pull the steering wheel off to access the ignition switch.
