Can anyone help me with the location of the factory amp in a 97 X that has the premium sound system? I would also love to take the center console apart but can't figure out how it comes apart. I got a cd manual on ebay but it is not working for me. Thanks for your help.

The amp(s) is tucked away in the passenger side cargo compartment, behind the interior panel.

Not sure on the center console. Maybe I can find a pic on my CD.

edit: looked on my '95 CD, but for some reason, it shows a 1st gen console with the detached armrest. can't help ya there

Thanks! Do you know how to get the panel off with the Sub behind it? What kind of CD do you have and where did you get it?

I have pulled that panel off before, and from memory, it is just a matter of removing a few screws from the bottom, and pulling the rest of it. The rear seatbelt goes through the front of the panel, but I didn't need to remove that to get behind the panel to work. Just be sure to look for screws along the bottom and possibly along the back (don't remember).

I got my *cough cough* official Ford service manual CD *cough cough* from eBay. To the best of my knowledge, it is an official manual.:)

The amp is located in the right quarter panel , to access it, it is necesary to take out the quarter panel cover .
The center console has 2 bolts in the front and 2 bolts in the center ( you have to take out the black covers) and after that pull back.

Thanks for the help guys. I will try to get into this a little later this week. Thanks again
Nate

Here is a pic of the interior cargo panel. It is difficult to understand, but maybe it can help.

Thanks for the pic, it makes sense. i have spent many hours looking at auto manuals. Does anyone know what size the factory sub is with the premium sound system?
