I recently discovered that my radiator needs replaced (was cleaning it up in preparation to re-install w/ my overbudget rebuilt engine)... I have a 98 with the 4.0l OHV & a 5 speed. I don't mind having a radiator with the aux. cooler built in- because I may put a power adder on at some point & might use it to cool my oil... I Do Not Want a single core radiator- Needs to be a double [2] core... I prefer to use a reputable brand, but being overbudget- my wife says "go cheap"...
I have searched quite a while & not come up with a definite answer- so I am posting my Q's here (sorry if the answer exists & my inadequate search methods did not reveal it!):

Can anyone tell me the difference between how the 4.0L SOHC radiator, the 5.0L radiator & my 4.0L OHV radiator mount? All the pictures look the same to me. One search suggested that the 5.0 radiator would mount 3/4" further forward... That is about all I turned up.

I am currently pondering the use of the following 2 part numbers: CU2174 & CU1824... The first # is for the SOHC engine while the second is for the 5.0...
Has anyone used one of these (or an interchangeable radiator) on their OHV Explorer? If so- what modifications were needed? If not- what radiator(s) have you used that you were pleased with (just 2 or 3 core radiators please)?

I found one place offering completely aluminum 3 core radiators, but they are no thicker than the 2 cores... Anyone had good luck with a "cheap" all aluminum unit?

Thanks for your input!

The auto transmission radiators for the 4.0L OHV V6 are 2-core.

They are a direct swap for the single core radiator in manual transmission models.

You'll need to use the lower hose for an auto transmission since the lower hose goes on at a 45 degree angle, but that's about it.

You can use the auto transmission cooler as an engine oil cooler, or power steering cooler, or just plug them up until you get the parts or decide what to do.

I like the Vista-Pro models made by Visteon, since they are Ford's OEM supplier. Rockauto sells them for around ~$100, plus you can use a 5% off online coupon. You might also find them for less online using the part number or at other parts stores using online coupons.

I finally found a part number for the OHV Explorer that is a 2 core- don't understand why it took sooo long! CU1728
Didn't find a 2 core on the rockauto link you sent Anime, but as I am finding- I am apparently a lousy searcher. Your input did lead to a series of searches/cross referencing that ultimately found the number I've been looking for... Thanks
That part number is for a 95-97 (not my 98), but I'm tired of looking- all I find for a 98 OHV are single cores. Wish me luck :)

Update:

Still haven't installed it to verify fitment, but (other than the Core Thickness) the mounting & inlet/outlet appear to be the same... CU1728 vs. stock for my 98 OHV... I'll try to post another update after installation (along with pictures). NOTE*- THE FAN SHROUD WON'T FIT without modification due to the additional core thickness... This is not an issue since I have ditched the engine driven clutched fan... For the immediate future I am using an electric fan out of a 97-99 Escort (since I have 3-4 of them laying around my garage. It isn't quite tall enough, but should do the trick. I fab'd 3 brackets up from some scrap ductwork angle I had laying around & added one hole to the top rail of the radiator. I'll try to take a few picts & upload them...

Bump ! I know the single core and double core shrouds are different because of the thickness. Looking to see if anyone has used an OHV rad on a SOHC or vice versa
