I have a 2000 F250 Super Duty with V8 Vortac engine. It developed a loud engine knock after an idiot that borrowed it overfilled the crankcase. My research tells me it is the cam timers knocking. Others who have heard it says it is a rod. Using a wooden stick I listened to the knock on the cam cover and it was loud. I did not crawl under and listen to the crankcase because it was so loud. Would an overfilled crankcase, by only a quart, cause a rod noise or is it your opinion that it is in fact the cam timers. Please give reasons for your conclusions and any advice how to troubleshoot.
