2001 Explorer XLT 4.0
2001 4.0 Explorer, 4wd not working. When I bought it, I was told it was the actuator on the transfer case, but I've seen where the modual may also be a problem. I'm looking for any help in diagnosing this problem, and which part it may be, I appreciate any help.

First thing I would do is check for voltage at the brown wire. Fuses you may want to check the ones pertaining to the 4wd system (owners manual).

Open the jack stowage panel and have someone cycle the 4wd on and off with the key in "Run". You should hear a "click" from a the control relay that is located in that space.

At least thats where I think the TC relay is located.

Bob, is that the TOD torque on demand relay? If so, that would be a good one to check.

About 0.6V at zero duty, and about 5.6V at full duty.
