I've noticed, about 3-4 times in the last month or so, that my XLT AWD is "stuck" in first gear upon starting out...I can hear the revs getting pretty high. Each time I was able to get it "back to normal" by either just braking to a stop and accelerating again, or by stopping, going into Park, and starting out.

Anybody else having a similar issue? Any thoughts on what might be wrong?

(Warranty is due to expire in only 2,000 miles).

There are a couple or more TSB's for updating the software for the transmission shifting issues.

Not sure if it is exactly the issue you described, but my Svc Mgr told me there are several updates for different issues.

Call your dealer and see if one of the TSB's could be for your issue.

Good luck.

Thanks, Brite...I'll check with my dealer on this.

Try resetting the transmission by unhooking your battery and letting it return to the factory settings. Then it will relearn your driving habits. I did this several times with my 2008 and 2010 Explorers and it worked. If it started shifting weird, then I did it again.
