I need to remote mount my Oil filter in my 98' 5.0L Explorer in order to fit my steering box in. Does anyone have a brand that they really like or trust? Any they would for sure stay away from?

I had a perma cool filter relocation kit hooked up to my trans on my 93 ex. I currently have the same kind with a temp gauge hooked up to the trans on my 2000 ex now. No Problems at all. Should be just as good with the oil.

I've use Summit Racing's version on several vehicles with good results.

Yeah, both of mine were ordered through summit racing.

Great, thanks guys. I'll look over there. I think though a small issue is that the 5.0L uses a standard thread and the kits use a metric. So Ill have to find a bung that screws into the block and takes a metric filter. That way I can hook it on. Is there a style like the factoy one? Where it just has o rings and you tighten down a screw and it all seals tight? V.S. the normal ones that have to spin on? I think the motor mount has to come off to spin the engine part of the kit on.

I looked at the Summit Brand before I bought mine but it used hose clamps and I wanted threaded fittings. Here's what I used on mine.

I originally ordered this Trans-Dapt oil filter relocation kit from Summit Racing.

However, there wasn't enough room for the block adapter to work. So I purchased this oil filter bung from Late Model Restoration.

I then ordered this Trans-Dapt low profile block adapter from Summit Racing.

Which filter do you use? That bung is a Ford part correct? I ask because I am terrified of not getting quality parts and starving the engine for oil. It does get run hard at times :) And so that bung takes care of what I was talking about where its standard pitch threads into the block and metric threads needed to go to that 90* block adapter.

I guess the lines look pretty good if they are 1/2" lines.

That's the same one I used. I mounted my filter vertical so there would be no mess when unscrewing filter though.

Correct, it changes the threads for the adapter to 3/4-16 in. and the lines are 1/2 in. It is a Ford part. As for the filter, the kit also uses a 3/4-16 in. thread so the filter is just the standard part number that the 1985-95 Mustang uses. I used a K&N that I had in my garage for my 1994 Cobra.

That's the same one I used. I mounted my filter vertical so there would be no mess when unscrewing filter though.

Mine actually hangs just far enough in front of the cross member that there shouldn't be a mess. I'll just remove the skid plate when I take it down to have the oil changed.

How do you like those fittings? I'm going to replace my lines with the blue hoses that Summit sales and think of getting what you got.
I'm sure there's no leaks whats so ever but thought I'd ask any way.

I haven't fired mine yet because I'm still doing the V8 conversion. I'm just waiting for the new fuel tank to arrive which should be here tomorrow. I'm confident that it won't leak because I did a similar setup on my Cobra to add an oil cooler. However, I used AN fittings and braided line to add the oil cooler to my Cobra and it ended up costing me about $200.

I just ordered all the same parts. (Bung was $2 cheaper at ford dealer)
