I'm wondering if an early 90's 4.0l ohv has mounting issues if used in a 2002-2005 explorer xlt? I figure the rest will be fine as far as swapping just need to know if they mount up the same.

Yes they mount the same. IMO it's a good swap since the OHV doesn't have the timing chain issues.

Ok, how about the bell housing bolts ? Thanks

don't want to hijack the thread, but I'm completely new the the explorers and don't think my question deserves its own thread.

how can you visually tell the difference between a 4.0L SOHC and OHV?
it is in a 98 explorer

The passenger side head will be rectangular shaped. They also will have alot more plastic (intakes and such on top) sohcthat is.

Bell housing will be close enough... Only 7of 8 bolt line up.

An early 90s block most likely won't have the mounting bosses to bolt up the newer motor mounts. You can't even bolt a 95 right side mount onto a 91 block.
