I have a 2002 ford Explorer 4 door 4x4 that is factory stock. It has 55,000 miles on it and is in great shape. My question is am I wasting my time thinking of putting off road tires and a mild lift kit on it? I am not looking for a rock climber just something to take on forest roads. Or should I look for a jeep?

Look for a what?!? How dare you, sir! The explorers are MORE than capable off road vehicles. With a mild lift, some bigger, more aggressive tires, and maybe a regearing, you will have vehicle that will be pulling the heeps out of the mud! Good luck with whatever direction you take. And welcome to the forum!

Jeep what?

I went through some of the easier trails in Moab with +1 size All Terrain tires. I have gone through some deep snow and mud with this thing and have yet to get stuck, AND I just have AWD, no 4 low.

Jeep? does your wife/girlfriend need something to drive to soccer practice? Do you want something that will rust out in 5 years? Jeep is not what they use to be in the 70's...
