3.0 ranger will not start after engine is wARM. this happen once a month. truck is driven every day. no idiot lights go on , fuel pump relay, and plugs have been replaced. when truck sits(cools) 3 hrs or so it always restarts. RARLY happens , but cant be trusted, I cant afford to spend $$$$ taking to someone . please help me self diagnosis this problem. p.s. I don't ever remember hearing fuel pump @ pre start.
turns over like it wants to start, inert swh good thank you mike m.

That's classic symptoms of a failing fuel pump. I had
the same with an 04 Ranger, and after replacing the
pump, cut it apart to find the pump brushes had worn
the commutator drastically. The truck only had 60K
miles on it at the time. I believe the pumps of these
model years had defective brushes and/or commutators
that causes them to fail prematurely.

If you decide to replace the pump, it's much easier to
access the pump by unbolting the bed and sliding it
back and propping it up slightly. (Six Torx bolts and
unplug tailight harness to free the bed).
