'97 F150 4x4 with 5 speed

I found a '97 F150 5 speed with a 4.6L V8. If I wanted to buy it and put in a 5.0 motor in it, would I have to change the trans? I want a 5 speed, but they are soo hard to find.

too bad you're in New Mexico & I'm in Mis'sippi... I have an '88 4 X 4 & a 91 4 X 4. engine is bad in both.

88 to 96 trans from either a 4.9 six or a 5.0 V-8 will work. <---might widen your search parameters. as to the actual dimensions and fitting the 97 truck; I have never tried a conversion. IMHO, you're going backward with the 5.0.

You can do LOTS with a 5.0 I think I'm just going to try and find a truck that already has a 5.0 in it.

Except swap it into a 97 F150 and keep it emissions legal.

Dont count the 4.6l out...you do just as much with it as a 5.0l.

I suppose If I can, I will get that 97.
