Car takes 2-3 to start

Hello i have a 2002 ford explorer and i was wondering why my car takes a couple of times to start? it has a new fuel pump and filter... i have a truck battery in the car that is a little tinier then the one that's suppose to be in the car, could that be one of the reasons?

What do you mean "takes a couple times"?

Turn the key and nothing?
Turn the key and cranks but does not start?
Turn the key and it clicks?

The car cranks but doesnt turn on, but the second it does...
I was putting gas in the car and i saw gas was leaking from under the car so i think i didnt tighten the hose hard enouph, ill tighten it and hopefully it fixed the car
