4x4 light came on
'06 Mounty V8 AWD, towing travel trailer at about 5,000 lbs (rated 7,000 lbs)
Coming home from camping yesterday, I had been on surface roads (~45mph) for about 15 minutes. I made the left onto the entrace ramp to expressway and was merging into traffic when I felt a disturbance in the drivetrain. After I was safely into traffic, I noticed that the 4x4 dash-light was on, indicating the center diff was locked. I remembered that this could happen automatically if the center diff temperature got too high, to protect itself. Can't think how that would be. Fluid was changed in all 3 diffs about 30,000 miles ago, and the tires were new 1˝ ago (only about 15,000 miles), and the wear looks even/fine. Anyway, just as I was starting to think $$-signs, I got into the setup menu to unlock the axles (for you Explorer owners, Mountaineers don't have the single-push buttons that you have). It's at that point that I noticed my odometer was reading in kilometers. I hadn't changed that either. So now I'm thinking that it could have been some freak electrical issue that caused both at the same time. Neither has happened before, and neither happened the rest of the way home. Any of these happened to anyone else? __________________ thebrakeman ('70) DW ('71), DD ('99), DD ('01), DD ('05) 2006 Mountaineer Premier V8 AWD w/Tow Package, ScangaugeII Cashmere/Camel Interior, navigation, power 3rd row 2004 Surveyor 261T Hybrid Travel Trailer (27 ft) Equal-i-zer 10,000 lb 4-pt Sway Control WDH |

I see you are in Michigan. Did your Explorer talk to any Canadians. If so it might think it is cool to us the metric system. As far as the 4x4 goes, I guess your Explorer talked to a backwoods Canadian.

![]() Sorry BrakeMan, I have not had this issue before with mine, but it could have just been a blip in the electronics. Let us know if it happens again! __________________ --Joseph 2006 Merc Mountaineer Premier V8 AWD Bone Stock, for now.
