So, my order is in for a 2013 Limited but no VIN yet, so I continue to struggle with my color choice. It is so hard to order a new vehicle without seeing the color. I know the White Platinum looks sharp, but how does the Ruby Red compare to the current Red Candy? Anyone seen the Ruby Red in person?

I have the Ruby Red on order, but don't care for maroon or any purple tones. Any advice.....?

Thanks Joe. It doesn't look much different from the Red Candy. I was thinking it may be darker from the photos seen on fordvehicles.com. The one on the page where you bring up the Explorer and change its color really looked dark for some reason. I saw a couple videos of it on a 2013 Taurus from an auto show and it looked different on each video.

I was wondering if anyone saw it in person.....I guess you would have had to be at a show to do so. One salesperson told me it looked good and was quite "metallicy" which leads me to believe it sparkles....great, my wife will love it. I'm battling with going with the classy look....looks like I'll be forced to just get another one in a couple years if I don't like it!

Yeah, I don't care for the color if it looks like the swatch/rendering on the Ford site. It looks way dark, and like Cran-Raspberry juice. :)

The other pics look more reddish.

Will you roll the dice? :D

I'm rolling the dice....with reservation, unless anyone on this board can give me some reasons to not. I was hoping someone saw it in person.....maybe Cory has and has an opinion to let us know how different it is from the current Candy Red - darker, brighter, more metallic, etc.

I wish one of these colors wasn't available.....then I'd be contemplating on the tuxedo black.....wow does that turn an eye as well with the metallic in it. Ford is doing a nice job with the colors.

Reasons? I only see one that would make you nervous... I highlighted it below... :D

What does she think- I'd show her the pictures... You can't lose with White Platinum, though some have said it's a bit prone to easily chip on the front, and can/will be hard to match if anything needs to be fixed. The red shouldn't be so bad.

Remember effective management- get someone to do what you want and make them think it's their idea... :)

LOL.....good advice Brother. I think I am going to stick with the red. It will be a surprise whenever it gets here. I saw the white platinum today when it was cloudy and it just looked white. If it has any purple look to it when it comes in, you will likely hear me yelling from miles away.

Sweet.....I won't have to yell. Saw a 2013 Ruby Red Explorer in person today that just got dropped off the truck at the dealership. Deeper red than the Red Candy, but no purple or maroon look. Nice look to it. Hard to believe the 2013's are already hitting the dealerships and we are only a third of the way through March.

Very cool...

I agree- it was nice back in the day when the new model year showed up at the end of the previous model year. Kind of lost it's reasoning. I also thought it was much cooler when dealerships covered windows and cars to do a big 'reveal' on the first day of the new model year. Now, it's leaked photos online that get people all worked up.

Like when this was going to be the new Explorer:

Any chance you can post a picture.

I have 4 photos I took......any easy directions on how to post them?

I think I figured it out. Photos were taken before the vehicle was even cleaned off. Back side photos taken with direct sunlight on the vehicle. Front photos taken into the sun. New Ruby Red Color....I hope these links work. If they do, I guess we will see what everyone thinks.

Thanks Bobby! Looks like the Ruby Red is similar to Red Candy.

Bobby- just fyi- if you click the yellow mountain pic in the reply box, then post your link in the window that comes up, they will show up in the thread as pics...

Or, if you copy/paste the link in PB instead, it will do the same thing...

I guess the Ruby Red is a tad darker in comparison with the tail light.

Still love the new color!!

Thanks for the advice on posting the pics. I messed around with it, but couldn't get the image button to work. i'm on a Mac, so I don't know if that makes a difference.
Cool seeing the pic of the Red Candy near the Ruby Red. I like them both.
With that being said, the White Platinum is also great looking. Looks like red for me now, White Platinum for the next body change and then back to tuxedo black the change there after. I've got my ten year plan all set...lol.
