Yeah, after the close call two weeks ago on a trail run I'm gonna be building one also. I ended up taking out making air filter after the second river crossing (abit deeper, over the hood) then the first I used a t shirt as a filter for the last 4 miles of the trail to get out to the road. Then it was a 8 mile drive to a parts start for a new MAF, air filter and alot of luck. Since then I replaced the belt tensioner, idler pulley and completely disassembled the throttle body, IAC to clean them as well as the whole air intake. I'll post pictures later. I've been trying to upload videos to photobucket but they won't upload completely.

I'm just not a fan of using PVC on my truck. I'll eventually have one but I want it to follow the lines of the truck and look like it's supposed to be there. That's really hard to do with PVC.

Maybe I am not looking at it right I think that snorkel he posted looks like it was built by a company not just built from Lowes parts. I would like to see the under hood part though before I pass judgment.

Oh, sorry, I wasn't referring to that one in particular, just what many people use. My plan was to find an ARB or similar that is close enough and could line up nicely with a little work. The pictures aren't loading on my phone but I suspect that is exactly what I'm talking about.

I had helped a guy build a snorkel out of pvc and we took 2 paint peelers and when you heat the pvc up all the way around where you would want a gradual bend, it will bend and then quench it in a barrel of water to cool it and it will hold its shape. Helps it follow the shape of the vehicle better.

It looked really good! We roughed it up with some sand paper and dipped it in plasti-dip. We were able to make it look like it followed lines in the truck really well.

Cool DIY project. I have no use for a snorkel but someday I might and I'll have to give this a shot.
