Discontinued with 0 on the locater

so where can I find one? Or is was it replaced with another part number? Anybody know?

I've checked about 4 different OEM Ford Part sites.
None have any available.
And the effin thing is discontinued.

Thanks, not what I like to hear though, hah.
Do you happen to know if it was replaced with a different part number?
Or any idea where I could find that info?
Because there are no aftermarket lower steering shafts for the 2nd gen Explorers.

Thanks.

I couldn't come up with any other information unfortunately

seriously.... wtf? there has GOT to be a replacement for the lower steering shaft... I just can't find anything! No aftermarket parts, no more OEM Ford parts apparently.

anybody....?

Junk yard? try getting one from a 96 or newer-
Mine is a 96, all metal unit. If you can find an explorer with the engine pulled, it will be very easy to remove-

Or, it may be called the intermediate shaft-

Another option is to have one made by Flaming River, for around 275 bux

I was trying to stay away from getting a used one; would prefer new, really.

I may have found on though... is a 98 5.0 lower shaft the same as a 97?

I searched the part #, which shows it as being for 98-2001 5.0.

but I have no clue what the differences are between the shafts in 4.0, 5.0, and if anything changed in the model years.

The newer ones are plastic:(

this looks all metal to me.
Just want to make sure it will work, as it states it's for 98-01.

Part #F87Z-3B676-FA

but I guess for $40, can't hurt to get it anyway.

The steering extensions for the '98+ body lifts are different than the 95-97s. So.. wouldn't that mean the lower shaft would be too? Hmm.. I'll check my '98 vs what I remember of the '96's. :p:

this is for the Rangers though, no?
Those obviously changed when the front suspension changed from TTB to SLA, since the steering boxes had to change also.
and since no body lift is "made for" a 2nd gen Explorer, makes it kinda difficult.

That brown part to the right of the blue bushing is plastic--trust me-

Look for Mountaineergeens "loose steering" thread-

ahhhh okay. didn't realize that was the part that was plastic (I have read that thread... guess I didn't pay close enough attention to it)
well damn... oh well.

This can atleast get me by I suppose.

Interesting, more parts to buy.
