anyone have this problem in their 87-96 f150!?

hey all,

my buddy just purchased a super clean 1995 f150 4wd with the 5.0. the body is straight, interior is super clean and it rides pretty nice for such an old truck, but it has one problem:

if you drive it on the freeway for more than an hour or so, the CEL will turn on and off. it will just glow for a few seconds and then it will shut off. sometimes when this happens, the light will shut off, and when you slow down to a stop or near stop, and have to accelerate again it takes at least a second for the rpms to get going. you will just gas it and nothing will happen for a second or two and then boom! it kicks in again. ive seen it happen a few times and was wondering if this is a common problem with these trucks and if there is some place we should start our investigation.

..You have an intermittent failure of a sensor and this is common symptom on modern vehicles..

..This could be due to a short, loose connection, or the sensor is on it's way out..Check the stored codes and post them back here..

its 0565, canister purge valve. im guessing he as to change the canister purge valve?

..It could be the solenoid purge valve. Check for nicks in its wiring, rubber bits inside it, make sure its plugged in and hoses are snug, or it may just be old and sticking open..

we checked the wiring, and noticed that the surrounding hoses looked to have been recently replaced. everything except for the actual canister/solenoid. im guessing the previous owner started to try to fix the problem by starting with the plumbing, and stopped at the actual part. we ordered a new one and ill report back our results.

P0565 Cruise Control On Signal Malfunction

565 - canister purge valve. my buddy told me he just changed the valve this evening, and hes still getting that code. so im guessing he will need to try changing the canister/solenoid this time?

..Did he reset the computer (unplug the battery for a while) ?
