2004 3.0 Edge Fuel pump question

Hi gang
This time we have a 04 3.0 Edge with dead fuel pump. Inertia switch is good, and relay clicks. No audible fuel pump prime sound, no fuel pressure. 160k miles on original pump.

While looking for a replacement I realize the fuel basket is different than I have encountered in any explorer. It seems to have a weird strainer-basket standoff configuration.
Has anyone replaced the pump and strainer with a generic pump and sock?
I saw a review on Amazon stating it could work with the proper modifications.

If I had an idea what to do, I am sure willing to go that route. Can you provide some guidance please?

I just get the pump with strainer and all parts attached...If there are any issues it will not be from my assembly or parts not holding together right.

No, it is not a flex fuel vehicle, but it does have the slow flashing theft light on the cluster. It turns off while attempting to start.

This truck was giving signs of a failing fuel pump when it was parked. ( random misfires and running rough.)
