2002 radio out

I have a 2002 Exploder sport trac, and the radio is spastic. After a battery change 2 years ago, truck had to be running awhile before the radio would come on. After I disconnected the battery, and properly reset, it worked fine...for awhile. then it stopped, and now display won't even come up. Before, when it would act up, at least the cd eject would work. now nothing. Checked fuses, and reset again, with no results. HELP!

Do you have a multimeter? Check if the wiring harness is getting power.

(edited by admin). Pull the radio out, and check the wiring harness for power with the key in various states. If you have power when you should, then it's the radio/head unit going wonky. If it resets and plays for awhile, then it's probably either got corrosion on some of the contacts (12+ years) that are making them intermittent, or a bad power supply component that is intermittent. In any event, sounds like time to replace it. But replacing it is futile if you don't know if you have reliable power in the harness first off.
