1996 Ford Ranger 2.3l
Hi all,

Hope im posting in correct location.

I have a 96 Ford Ranger regular cab. For about 4 weeks it will ONLY start (after sitting for at least 8 hours) with a shot of ether. On very warm days it will start after cranking for a few seconds. Every morning I have to use ether though. It runs fine after that. Fuel system is 35lbs with ignition on. Fuel filter replaced. Once its running it will restart no problem. I use gas pedal to get it to start even with ether. My temp gauge works and heater works so Im thinking its not coolant sensor. Im not sure which way to go. Im a technician by trade and run an Engineering dept but this has me stumped. PLEASE help! Thanks

Should have two coolant sensors. One for the gauge, the other for the ECU.

If you have an ODB code reader with data display, check the engine temp to verify the ECU is getting accurate info.

Thanks

I finally got to test the sensor today. Before starting I had 23 ohms using 200k scale on VOM. After warm up I have 3.5 ohms. According to web page this is within tolerances. Im testing across the 2 terminals with connector off. Whats next?

Thanks
