not sure, but i bet you need to take the top pieces off before you can get the whole thing out. Look for screws around the cup holder and in the bottom of the storage bins. Be a bit adventurous but take your time and you'll have it out in no time. Might check around the base for screws as well.

Just did this to my 97 Mounty. It is SUPER easy. Remove the package tray and cup holders by grasping and pulling out by hand. There is a wiring block located directly under the stereo with a bolt holding it in place. Loosen the bolt until you can unplug the harness. There are two gold colored bolts on either side of where the wiring block was, remove these. Now if you move back until you are at the front edge of the armrest and look straight down you will see two more bolts that are exactly the size and color of the first two, remove them (you may need to grab them with needle nose pliers after they are loose to get them completely out of there) . This is the tricky part. You have to get in the back seat and pull the console straight back and slightly upward to release the two metal "fingers" that are holding the rear of the console to the floor. These fingers slide into a plate that is bolted to the floor that has two slots in it. DO NOT be shy when you are pulling the console to release these. Trust me, it takes some effort. When you get that released, just pull the whole console out through the rear seat, wiring and all. When you replace the console just reverse this procedure but make sure you don't get hung up where those four bolts go in as you are sliding the console forward and back into place. Hope this helps. Good luck! :)

But just to clarify. Your amp should be in the rear of the truck. Maybe a cd changer in the console? If you need to get just the changer out that is totally different but just as easy.

remove the center console on a 97 Limited? My amp is bad

Thank-you all for the excellent information, it will realy make this job easy. Only one more thing, I am not sure where the Amp is located in my truck, I asumed it was under the counsole like my Escort. If anyone knows of another spot that they like to put these amps i would like to know. Anyway thanks again:salute:

The amp in my truck is located in the rear right of the truck if you are standing with the hatch open looking into the truck. You must remove the interior panel to access it.

Wiring diagram for my audio system

My question is about a dead amp in my 97 Explorer Limited. I have found the amp and sub Amp under my interior trim, in the back. What I am looking for is a wiring diagram that shows me how the whole system is wired in; I want to check if there are any fuses or fusible links in the system. I also need to know how to check both components to see which one is not working. Since I have no bass tone coming from any of the 4 working speakers and not a lot of volume I think it is my main amp, but I am not sure? Any help you could give me would be useful. Thanks:salute:
