Air Bag Light / Seat Belt Warning | Page 10 | Ford Explorer Forums - Serious Explorations

About 3 months ago the airbag light on our 2014 Explorer came on. We brought it in and the service department replaced an airbag module and the light was out...for about a week. Brought it back in and seems they need to replace another airbag module. However, this one for some reason the Ford Service department cannot get it shipped. It has been over a month!! The explaination we get is the part is ready to be shipped but there is limited shipping containers so we have to wait until the shipping container is availble to pick up the part and ship. They have given us a rental (Nissan Altima), but we continue to make a payment for a Ford Explorer. Our is Ford suggesting that next time we buy a Nissan?!?

--Does this sound remotely right?
Welcome to the Forum, :wavey:
I have merged your thread with this existing one. If you read through it you will see that in may cases the issue is with the connector under the seat. Good luck.

Crystal,
It is at the dealership right now...but about 20K.

--because we had family visiting this weekend we were just going to pick it up for a couple of days, but now they tell us none of the airbags would work.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the reply, kncyw. I want to escalate this airbag issue to your regional customer service manager; they'll work with your dealership on getting this resolved. To get started, send me a private message (PM) with your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, current mileage, and servicing dealership. I'll take it from there.

Crystal

Hi Crystal, do you/we know if the Explorers are part of the Takata Airbag recalls?

We'll find out soon enough when Takata identifies and announces the vehicles that are affected.

Let me provide an update.

2 weeks ago I took my car to dealer to check the airbag light since it has been on constantly.

First they changed seat belt buckle , they said it was faulty. The light was back on less than one day.

So I bought it back one more time, this time they reconnected some wiring, and airbag light has been off for 2 weeks, and they did not touch the yellow plug under the seat.

This is what was written on the report:

Check for air bag light on . Note Seat Belt Buckle Assembly replaced on XXXXXX ( order number). Light was out after repair but came on a few days after.
Perform air bag diag and pinpoint test. Found code B1212 for seat buckle circuit.

Re/re seat and carpet to gain access to wiring and trace CR170 GN wire from seat belt buckle to RCM. Found wire corroded between C211 and C311. Repair circuit CR170 GN wire and retest system operating normally at this time.

Parts used: WT-56815 ( Kit - terminal)

PM on airbag light

Crystal,
Did you get my vehicle and personal information in order to get the regional manager involved?

Thanks.

LOL! I'll still come back here from time to time, Peter. Today Tricia is out of the office, so I'm going to jump in and help out in her absence. You're not rid of me just yet. ;)

Just got my 2011 49,500 mile Exploder back from the Dealer for the Airbag warning light issue. This was the third visit for the air bag light in one year! I was going to try and fix this issue myself until my Ford service manager said Ford has a 5 year 50,000 mile SRS warranty. I got a free loaner car because they had the car for 2 days and when I saw the car, the front seat and center console were removed . The good: The light is now off, The Bad: The paper work says they just performed the TSB for grease and loose connecter pins! Nothing was replaced so I guess when it comes on again I will be over 50,000 miles and have to pay for repairs. This is the third attempt at the TSB. I joked with my wife if this thing doesn't make it through June without a problem, what color Tahoe does she want ;)

Our 2013 Explorer just came back from its 4th (or 5th I'm losing track) service for the air bag light warning. The front passenger seat belt assembly was replaced this time. We should know in a few weeks if this solved our air bag light warning.

Kncyw,

I replied, and let me know if you need anything else! :D

Thanks for the update, guys.

Be sure to keep an eye on it, and don’t hesitate to reach out to me if the symptom returns.

In the meantime, I’ll be happy to document your dealer experience. Please PM your full name, VIN, dealer, mileage, and best daytime phone number. I’ll make sure it’s noted. :)

2011 XLT Airbag Light

My airbag light came on today. I ran a vehicle health report and it said to get the car serviced immediately. I drove straight to the Ford dealer and of course they can't get me in for 2 days! I am almost nervous to take it to them anyway, because they just never seem to have it together. There is ALWAYS and issue. Is this something a different car dealer can handle? Or does it need to be a Ford dealer. The next closest one is an hour away.
(We do have an extended warranty on it.)

Welcome to the Forum. :wavey:
Using the Forum's 'Search' program, this thread came up and I have merged yours with it. If you have the Ford ESP then you must take it to a Ford dealership if you want to have it covered under warranty. Chances are it is the connector under the seat that is causing the issue but you never know.

Only made it till June 6th and problems again

Hello everyone, Airbag light on again! That great fix the dealer did lasted a whole week and 2 days. Thanks for all the help on this forum but this is it. I will be shopping for a replacement for this Explorer. The Airbag light issue has been so aggravating and this has been the 3rd or 4th attempt to correct it, not to mention the countless other issues with this car. I started a great relationship with Ford with my 94 escort, 00 ranger, 01 supercrew, 03 supercrew, 07 edge, but this 2011 explorer does not deserve the blue oval. This forum is great, just wish I could say the same about a $42,000 car with 49,800 miles on it.Good luck Ford owners.

Ford really needs to take note of this issue. It is very clear that the TSB fix of cleaning and greasing the pins is a SHORT term fix. Either harnesses need to be replaced or a new pigtail harness needs to be spliced in.

This is a safety issue and if NTSHA isn't aware someone should make them aware, and if they are more pressure needs to be added. Class action lawsuit?

This doesn't affect me but the frustration on this forum is clear.

Ford is literally playing with people's lives in this case.

I agree...if any lawyers are following this thread, please feel free to contact me.

Since the airbags won't operate when the alarm is lit, this in my opinion is a serious safety concern. Having said that, I wonder how many members that have this issue have actually filed a report with the NHTSA?

i hardly drive the explorer, only on weekends and not that often (it's my wife daily driver).
I drove it yesterday and the airbag light is on!
2011 63,000 miles.
I have ESP to 75,000 miles 7 years, I assume ESP covers this repair?

I have been reading through several of these pages...

So with airbag light on, in the event of a crash, the AIRBAGS WON"T DEPLOY????

Way to go FORD, just turn off the airbags on a four year old vehicle apparently over some cheap connectors you spec'ed/sourced....
