I don't quite know if I am posting this in the right spot but here it goes!
My English class requires us to write a information essay
I would like to do some info on OUR Explorers and the EF
that's right, my paper will be about 3rd gens!
Any info you know, or any good sources of info will be quite helpful to accomplish this task!
The teacher lady said to write about something you're passionate about and I figure how can't you be passionate about the vehicle you drive EVERYDAY!
Criteria: 5-7 pages
So if you guys can help I will gladly appreciate it! Now I am off for research!
PS NO WIKI!

If this is in the wrong spot and you can suggest a better place please do!

... I myself would include in the beginning of the paper how the Explorer started it's life on the Ranger based platform and then became the number one selling vehicle...

...You might find some useful info at the top of the Ranger sub forum...:D

Yeah, you might use the prior generations and pick them apart, as in, the pros and cons to each "improvement", including the suspension changes geared toward on highway safety. Try to show how public perception caused it to become more of a car then a truck. This would be both of interest and fill in a lot of space.

Bring up the fact that UHaul still will not rent a trailer to tow behind an Explorer, based on the rollovers that were occurring with the Firestone tire failures during the 2nd Gen Explorer fiasco.... 15 years later, UHaul still will not change their policy regardless of the year Ex you drive :smokinfro

Yet if you tell them it is a Mountaineer they do not hesitate.

when i was in high school, wikipedia was no-go because it was really unreliable. these days i work work with an engineering team that has a bunch of stanford guys and robotics experts and every time we are in a meeting we are constantly using wikipedia. the trick is to find info on there you might find useful and then follow the links that that info is referenced from, it helps a ton when doing initial research.

good luck!

Interesting idea. All of the ideas above are good, but perhaps start with:

1) a general overview of the SUV itself (recreational to military back to recreational, Concentrate on the post war economic boom and interstate high way system)

2) history of Explorer (origins, rangers, ford's answer to cherokee, first 'civilized' SUV)

3) generational differences / upgrades (too many to list here, but note how many car influences found their way into explorer {IFS, IRS, leather, creature comforts, electric 4x4})

4) governmental influence over the light truck market(throw in some firestone references here)

5) and end with the future of consumer demand / expectations of crossovers.

Dont forget numbers. Teacher Ladies LOVE numbers :D

When is your paper due, if you say tomorrow, you waited too long.

Tell you what, while many here will likely throw out all sorts of good information... I choose to impart something that may or may not stick...

Put your plan together yourself and research it. Write a draft and revise it. Get your final copy in proper format for the class and turn it in.

In the real world, no one is going to to do your work for you... you might consider starting now by coming to terms with it... good luck, this forum is a wealth of information... dig for it -- you will be more satisfied with your results this way than by doing what you can and just turning it in...

Best of luck, shoot for the "A"... and spell-check everything and check your grammar!

I did a paper like this many moons ago about Ford Escorts...

Good luck with it, should be fun.

The paper is due way down the road!
and I have to present on it as well
5-7 minutes of presentation, I think I can talk about mine for 5-7 years :D
love my explorer to death
and I do agree no one will do the work for me, thanks for the clarification, but who better to ask other than a community of guys who wrench on their explorers almost daily? they gotta know a thing or two... in not there is Rondo, who literally knows everything I have ever asked lol
Thank you guys for the help
Teacher lady meeting today and I will talk to her about all this, I am sure she wont be completely on board till I get into the full swing on it
my other topics include: JFK, Lee Harvey Oswald, and U of M football/big ten/ big house history
I am pushing for the explorer at most just because I am so passionate about mine, but the other topics have research galore that is easy to find
now if you type "explorer" you get windows explorer, 2013 explorer, and dora the explorer! lol
But through all the muck, I think I can produce something amazing
and credit will be given to the ones who deserve, meaning if she asks, I will explain how I got my info, and who helped me attain it, might make you guys some stickers for your explorers [:
Print lab is only a walk away!

Awesome organization on that, just gotta learn more about those topics
My knowledge is limited since I haven't been here so long but I am positive I can find things related to those topics! If not it shouldnt be hard to ask right?

I don't understand why wikipedia cannot be a source for data. Data is data, you can reword it, but still the end is the same. :D

Welcome to research kid lol. But also gotta remember that I don't think you can use EF as a reference for facts be it as it may if they are true. But at least you can use it for brainstorming and research ideas. Best of luck bud!

If it can be about EF, what about a psych paper based on the 2011+ subforum? That would be a great case study... :D

If you want to do a real academic research paper, narrow your topic to a single issue. You will have a mess of trivia if you don't. Your teacher will be bored with ramblings about your favorite vehicle, IMO.

For example, a good, specific topic might be the long term effects of safety failures in automotive engineering. The Explorer offers a great case study for that. Track the failure of Firestone tires on the Explorer in the 90s and the lasting effects of that one error and the steps taken to resolve and prevent future similar issues.

You would be able to use good sources, some peer reviewed journals even and have real facts instead of a bunch of trivia and your opinion of why you love the Explorer backed up with anecdotal evidence from a bunch of yahoos on a forum.

Good luck.

my other topics include: big house history
!

If "Big House" history means "the history of Prisons in the U.S.", I can help you if you need some info on them. I spent 25+ years working in them, including 12+ years working at Attica CF. Just PM me if you have a question or two, if you are looking for help on that subject matter.

:D aint that the truth.
I did a paper last semester on how to change oil on a 2nd generation explorer with the 4.0
Used a good 4 or 5 pages and made an A  if this is a "how to" make it specific. Or you will be writing way more than you wanted to.
