Ended up getting it started last night by doing the same thing I did before leaving for work, swap fog relay w/ fuel pump relay - clear code - and it worked..

Replaced the relays for fuel pump and pcm entirely with china's Let's see how it works today

Let's see how they hold up! Hopefully I don't have reoccurrence.

For regular maintenance, and good measure, I replaced the fuel filter today too.. WAY easier than I initially thought, I'd never done it before on any vehicle.

Still running ok, I'm hoping that I can make it to work without issue

wish me luck

Most likely with having a p1235 it is the fuel pump driver module-fpdm, thats what it normally would be on an F-150 ( same crappy driver set up). I can't get the website to work right so all I can find about it's location is near fuel tank unit. Before you put that in check the connector under truck running back to it for damage or green corrosion. Most of the time p1235 and p1233 won't turn the check engine light on but will be there in memory. Just put a fpdm on a Navigator today, I keep a spare but my toolbox so I can drive cars into shop. If you look at backside of fpdm and see how rotten it is, most of the time they have holes rotted through the case allowing water to fry circuit boards. Also I heard recently that regular parts stores are selling these, used to be dealer only. Good luck hope this helps, sorry I can't get a better description for locations.

Thanks K-pen -

Made it to work on time, and without an issue

HOWEVER

Went the truck took a few seconds longer to start on my break tonight, and then stalled before pulling into a parking spot. Couldn't get it started, and when I did, it just died while putting it in gear...

Finally got it started a few minutes later, and tossed it into 1st gear just to see if it had any other affect, and it worked without issue to pull into a spot. No check engine light at this time.

Hoping I can drive it home tonight (at least get it started and going, it seems to work OK once I get it going), and likely look to replace or diagnose the Fuel Pump or Fuel Pump Driver Module in the morning.

Sorry , I made an error in a previous post that the PCM drives the relay and the relay turns the pump on, 2005 is not the same as older explorer models.

Went out and took a look at my FPDM, but it looks like it mounts different than the F150s way that causes corrosion, so mine didn't look bad.

Then again, I didn't take it of of the mounting bracket, but at first glance, it doesn't look like it's been weathered badly. Of course, it still has the right symptoms to point to it, so I'm unsure on if I should go ahead and replace that, or the fuel pump... bout a $200 difference, I believe..

I noticed today that when the truck felt like it was about to die, if I pressed on the brakes, or pumped them, it seemed to come alive for a bit again.. weird.

Also, I just had trouble going anywhere - it would start, and I'd put it in gear and then release the brake and it would die. Then, I engaged the emergency brake, started it, put it in gear, released the e-brake and it drove away fine... WTF!

ordered a new FPDM from Tousley today, should come in next week somtetime -

Also, picked up a used fuel pump from a 2003 (explorer, or sport trac - unsure, should they be interchangeable? ) for $45- I'm going to try the FPDM First, since it is new, and easy easy to replace.. .then move to fuel pump if that still gives same results.

replaced my FPDM this morning, and drove it around - didn't have the issue one time among a few engine stop/starts- I'll continue to report back.

Bad news is I recreated the issue- Good news is, it is still intermittent, so I got it started again.

Off to the fuel pump replacement...

According to the notes of P1235, it doesn't ever really suggest that the FP is bad-

Quote:
FP circuit open or shorted
Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) system concern (check for ETC DTC P2105).
Damaged FPDM.
Damaged PCM
Should I skip the FP for now, and head straight for PCM ?

The intermittent action also could be a bad wire connection, you decide what to replace next.

I'm really at a loss of what to do next. Considering compiling all of this thread into one post, and then making another thread, and deleting this one.

good idea, or no?

I had a 'workaround' that I should have pursued earlier. Normally, when the issue occurred, I could remedy it by messing with the parking break..

While My truck was at the shop with a transfer case issue - I mentioned it to them, and they traced it to a pinched wire near my actual parking break lever WTF lol..

They say it's repaired though.. for an hour of labor
