sounds like a shotgun could work, and just take it with you. Or something like like 38 special revolver, Cheap $150, never jams, goes bang, and easy to clean...

J&J Smokewagon in Paradise, off Skyway. They're two guys that got their dealer licenses so they could buy for themselves. They have a website with all the prices you could ever want. Send them an e-mail and they call right back and set up an appointment. And for you out of state guys...you can buy from them and avoid the CA taxes we pay

I have yet to find a good online source for quality ammunition at reasonable prices. I buy mine at WalMart almost exclusively. They always seem to have a better price than the online places, and no shipping to pay either.

I have a friend that used to shoot competitively. He said he and his dad used to split their orders, but they had to buy 3000+ rounds at a time for it to be cost effective.

Do you have the link to their web site? I'm in the market for another toy...

www.cheaperthandirt.com used to have occasional deals on ammo, but as said above, you sometimes need to order mass quantity to make shipping worth it. Check your local box pricing and compare.

We would get a few guys together and buy 5000rd Cases of Wolf Match Extra in .22 for our rimfire league.

Not sure if wally world here is still selling ammo, I know they pulled all their long guns from the displays a while back.

We've still got both long guns AND ammo at our Wally-World... I only indulge in gratuitous ammo purchases there though... That and motor oil... Gets some funny looks at the registers LOL!!

Last time I bought ammo there it was 10 boxes of .45, they looked at me funny too. Looked like I was stocking up for Red Dawn.

So it only took 4+ years but I finally got around to picking one up. I bought this off a local guy from PBB for a good deal. Actually paid for it in June but finally found the time to go pick it up from the FFL today.

I haven't even shot the last gun I bought back in February yet. Hopefully I'll have time to take them both out before the end of the year!

Yeah, I use to check that site out often, as well as www.snipershide.com . I like browsing through the picture threads and seeing all the ways these guys trick out their rifles. I'll have to check out the local forum.

I'd like to get an AR. But I don't know about having the 'CA legal' version. I might just have to get the Remington 700 first and trick that out.

You can always bring them to our house and we'll make sure that they are up to Texas standards.

Bump! Looking for suggestions on a purchase. First timer here, looking for a relatively cheap handgun for home protection/concealed carry. Thinking 9mm. Been shooting a few times but relatively new to all of this, so any help/suggestions/advice appreciated.

My Glock 23 in 40 cal is the best gun I've ever used. Demo one at the range before you decide on a 9mm.

That's pretty much what you have to do. Shoot a bunch and see which works best with you. The Walther P99 and Springfields are also really nice guns.

or if you're new to this you need to go to the store, find some amo that is actually in stock and then buy a gun accordingly.
