Where is the GEM module???

Can anybody help me locate the GEM module on a 97 explorer??
And is there a way to test it??Thanks

I think it is dead center in the engine bay by the windshield wipers

Vehicle Specs

ECM (i.e. the computer) is indeed located where crankcase described. The harness fits onto this and you'll see a large bundle of various colored wires going into the plug harness- covered by a black plastic cover with a center hexagonal bolt.

Just remember to disconnect your battery before removing the harness.

The GEM is behind the radio to the left. I don't know of a way to test it.

On my 99. ot is toward the passenger side of center on the firewall.

Yeah it's on the left side of the radio. I have 2 GEM modules that I don't need, so if you're interested PM me and see if the numbers match and I can cut you a deal.
