It all started about a year and a half ago when i purchased my 91 ex and started to put a system i have from my previous car in. All of it is very good quality stuff... fosgate 4 channel, fan q components, phoenix gold wiring, jl 10w3, and an alpine head unit. used to have all of this in a corrado and it was clean and loud. well anyhow as the story goes i spent my proper time duing a clean install making shure everything was flush and clean looking. wiring isnt (shouldnt) be a prob as done it many times before. well after everything got hooked up it sounded great with the motor off but once you start the noises begin. horrible buzzing noise out of the speakers that fluctuates with rpms. tried switching wires around a little but to no help the noises continued until one day i literaly pulled over and ripped all the wires out of the freakin amp. so it was i had about 2000 worth of equipment in my truck and only the two stock rear speakers pluggin away off of my alpine head unit. This brings us to now... schools out and i have had a little time to get back into it and see what the heck is going on. regrounded all the way back to the battery.. nothing... disconnected the stock amp... nothing. for the life of me i can not get rid of this freakin noise. like i said i have good wiring and already swapped amps once because i thought it might be deffective but i know that isnt what is going on. anyone have any ideas?
AAaaaaaHHHhhhhhh!

This is the exact problem I have on a 93 sport....I only starting to look at it.

Going to the store to pick up new battery posts... probably wont help but i need them anyhow... maybe some beer as well... i think it is going to be a frustrating afternoon.

If you're talking about engine noise then I've had the same problem. My buzz varried with the engine RPM's also. I shortened up my ground wire for the amps and turned the "gain" on the amps down also. This took care of my problems. Now when I turn my deck all the way up my system will only distort a small bit where many people that have the gain turned up with distort at half power on the deck. That was my solution to the engine noise problem....I hope it helps you a bit.

newbie question time: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

How do you turn down the 'gain' on your amps?
Is this control on the amp itself? I have the factory amp...

Factory amp....I have no idea on that one.

The "gain" on the amp is usually a small control dial on the amplifier itself. It's the one that acts most like a volume control for the speakers it's controling.

the only problem is that with the gain turned down my compnonenets loose a lot of their power. they need the extra push from the gain being up a little. when i say a little i mean only about half. found that pretty much any amp will distort out the speakers with the gain turned up.

dont think there is a gain for the factory amp... almost 100% sure

thats engine noise your hearing, what quality RCAs are you running? did you run the RCAs along next to the power wire? if u did then move it, thatde be the reason...

I didn't change any wiring. Just got a retailer to put in the new HU. They didn't change any wiring.
Could the problem be 'located' in the wires from the new HU to the original speaker wires?

I had no problem before putting in a new HU - except once in awhile my right side door speaker would 'pop' when I adjusted the volume on my HU (very annouing).!

If you were going to replace the wiring -- any particular brand etc that you would recommend???

i like stinger brand RCA cables....but if the noise only started since when they put the new hu in, ide take it back and make em fix it...

check to see if the RCAs are ran next to the power for the amp....just to make sure they arent...

honestly i think one of the best ways to get wiring is to go to one of those discount audio blah blah blah places and get wiring from them. they carry good quality at a lot less cost than your mainstream places. check the cable for lettering that says oxygen free, feel how thick the insulation is. if you look at just a few differnet types of cables you will be able to tell the differences in quality.

i agree... if a shop installed the hu and it isnt working its on them... thats why you pay others to put things in cause otherwise you get stuck with headaches like the one i got goin...

update to project... reran the power down different side of the truck and tried ground in two different spots and also have new battery terminals... guess what... the noise is still there.

may also be criss crossed wires from your HU to your regular speakers....

any good place to ground in the back by the rear seat on the exs? i had drilled into the body to ground before but think maybe too close to the fuel pump and recieving noise from that. i am getting to the poin where i almost think that it is something besides the wiring that i have done and maybe a bad ground on the alternator or something. has anyone encountered this and if so what can be done?

i have mine grounded to one of the cargo loop bolts....but im gonna be drilling thru the floor and grounding to the frame..

recommend not doing it on the drivers side under the rear seat...

Re:

Yeah, fold the back seats down and lift up the little panels. You'll see some nice painted metal right there. Scrape off the paint, drill a hole and screw in a ground.
