Cool oil pump replacement on 1st gen x

hey all,

i just recently started having low oil pressure and though that it was about time to have the pump replaced ( 189,000 miles ). I starting looking around trying to find out how hard this was going to be for me or it was better left to a true profressional. I looked on here and everyone said that you had to pull the motor to do this. i started talking to some of the local Ford's mechanics and came to find that it can be replaced without removing the motor, it's just more difficult to do with the engine in. I found a mechanic that had a shop that i could use to do it in. basically all you have to do is get under there, undo the pan, is loosen up the pan, the motor mounts, and then jack that little engine up (lol). you will however need some thin arms to do this but it's not that hard and a heck of a lot cheaper to work for a few hours then to pay a garage for 10 hours of work. i hope that this helps some of you that are having low oil pressure and want to change that pump. after doing this i found that i have little to no lifter noise ( depending on temp of engine ) .
