i have a 97 2dr sport. and i see that superlift makes a 4in lift for it but its 1200 dollars. and it says that its almost the same as the explorer lift. i was wonderin why it was cheaper. i want a 3in suspension lift and if anyone can tell me what companys make one for the truck i got it would be nice.

I am in the same boat with the same suv. Would love to make my life easier by shopping for a ranger set up than a 97 explorer set up which no one offers.

jamesduff doesnt make anything for the 95+ ford explorers (cept maybe bodylifts)

The big difference and issue is that the Explorers are sprung under (leaf springs go under the axle) on the Explorers and sprung over on the Rangers.

The front end parts are identical.

I am actually working on a deal with BD suspension to be a tester for a new kit for the 1st Gen Explorer. If they figure out that a kit is feasable they will mass produce it. The nice thing about BD is that their springs come with a no hassle warranty - they sag - you get new ones - they break - same deal... No matter what you do with them...

If they come up with a 1st Gen kit, the rear would stay the same on 2nd gen Explorers - the front, is of course different, but the Ranger components work there...

I MAY ask for a write in campaign to generate some interest. I'll keep you posted.

ya i saw that duff didnt make anything for the newer xplorers. if thats the case with the ranger and xplorer suspension i dont understand why that cant just flip the springs in the back.(im just getting into this stuff so all i know is the basics so if i sound stupid thats why).

Many people flip the leaf springs in the back. It is usually called a SOA (spring over axle) conversion around here. It makes for a quick, and cheap, +/- 5.5" lift for the rear axle.

Robb beat me to it... You can flip the springs, but that takes a couple of things - and perhaps a driveshaft change (lengthening), but it is the easiest way to gain 5" in the rear...

so i could do the soa conversion and buy a 5in ranger lift? if i wanted 5in.

That's what I did. Since Skyjacker doesn't offer a 5.5" kit for Explorers, I just ordered one for a Ranger with the TTB front. 1982 to 1993 I thinkl!

I may upgrade to the 8" springs and brackets and get the James Duff Radius Arms.

PLEASE put on the RCD kit. Be the first :D

so as long as i order a lift for the ranger of the same year as my explorer it should work. is a 1997 ranger ttb in the front? :exp:

No, the '97 Ranger kit will be a TTB kit (Rangers went to SLA in '98), whereas the '97 Explorer kit will be SLA (Explorers went to SLA in '95). So, a kit that you find for a '98+ Ranger should work.

ok so when i order a lift for the ranger what year should i get it in?

i've been looking around trying to figure the best way to finish lifting my X, already have TT,AAL,Shackles and 3" BL, 33" would like to do SOA and something???? Up front to stuff some 36s or bigger, thanks for any help u can give, take care
