What model of BF Goodrich?
I'm hearing everyone rave about the BFG All Terrians and I need new tires but I'm not sure what model to get:
BFGoodrich® Radial Long Trail T/A LT255/70R16 BFGoodrich® Radial Long Trail T/A P255/70R16 BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO LT255/70R16 Also, once I get the correct model number where is the cheapest place to get them? Thanks. |

I do 100% street driving. However, I wouldn't mind being able to go off road from time to time. I'm looking for a tire that has great street performance wet and dry and is also good in the snow.
I called BF Goodrich and they said the KO was not recommended for the Explorer and here were their notes on the other ones: A/T Long Trail: Not geared toward off road Better wet than Rugged Rugged Trail T/A: Good all around tire better off road performance |

hundreds of people here run the KO on their explorer including me and none have had problems. i love the tires and i do 85% street driving and so far they have been outstanding on the street. and supposedly they are great in the snow too.

I compared the tires on the BF Goodrich site. The catagories are:
Tread Wear | Wet Traction | Quite Ride | Handling | Winter Traction | Mud Traction: All-Terrain T/A® KO = 6 7 7 6 9 9 Radial Long Trail T/A® = 10 10 10 8 7 6 Rugged Trail T/A® = 8 7 8 7 7 7 Open Trail T/A® = 6 8 10 8 7 5 The Long Trail seems to be the best for me because most of the driving will be dry / wet. |

Personally I would go with the All Terrains. I had a Bronco back in the day that had them, and plan on running them again, as soon as I need new tires. I will admit a bit of road noise, but a lot less than most offroad/street tires. By chance did they give a reason as to why they were not recommended?

Now those numbers are comparing BFG tires to BFG tires so I'm curious why you would say that the lower number ones are better for me? |

I was in the process of typing when you put the numbers up I think. The tire choice is ultimatly your of course. I've never had or went wheelin' with anyone that had the long trail TA's , but had very good luck with the All Terrains. Both on the street and the trail.

Well now I have another question. Costco lists 2 tires in the ones I'm looking at:
P255/70R16 = $114.99 x 4 = $459.96 - and - LT255/70R16 = $137.99 x 4 = $551.96 Almost a hundred dollars more for the LT. What is the difference? I'm confused

KO's all the way! I now have 48k on my ko's and they still have decent tread. GREAT all around tire, as long as you don't mind a little whine. They don't whine much, but it's noticeable at about 20-30 mph.

I've had KO's for 8yrs.. The First set lasted 55K miles and I working on my 2nd set. As for Ford's recommendation I take it with a grain of salt.. The tires on their recommend "list" are probably very short.

Definately go with BFG AT KO.. You'll be happy.. Those Long Trail T/A & Rugged Trails T/A suck.. I had Long Trail T/A and they had no grip in the snow compared to AT KOs

They only said that because of libailty concerns. You know roll over tire blowouts. I'd bet they didn't even look it up by year. Just "Explorer" I had a set of the old version All terrains & they were great. I am getting a set of 31's soon.
