Can't find hardly any with a 4.0 and 4wd that people want less then 4000. kbb.com list them in good condition in the 3500 range fully loaded and that is with it in good shape which i doubt many trucks that old are in that good of shape. Am I way off base on what I think these should be worth. you can find way more explorers cheaper then a ranger.

Matt

Wow, you're right, Matt. I just did a search on autotrader, and I only got one page of results for your requirements and unlimited distance from my zipcode. Closest one was 650 miles!

I'll keep an eye out if you want. You want regular cab only?

regular or super cab doesnt matter. Auto or stick doesnt even matter eather. For some reason I have a feeling that what ever body is on it wont stay strait for long. I would really like to find one in the 2500-3000 range. Even if it needs work I can deal with that now that I have my other truck to drive everyday.

I know why Matt wants another Ranger, its so he doesn't have to change his screen name. :p

Oh by the way Matt, Felix has an 8.8 from an Explorer w/ drum brakes (needs 1 new backing plate) so if you get your hands on a Ranger i'm sure he'll make you a smokin deal on it, aaaaaand i'll be putting my 31 spline trac-loc carrier with 4.56 gears up for sale soon, so i can hang on to it if you're interested.
Dave

I want a 4.0 over the 2.9 so I can have a bit more power this time around. I am in no real hurry to get something. Figure I will wait till i find the right truck and in the mean time collect tools and parts. So far I already have a dana 44 and just built a work bench today so I have a place to work on stuff besides the floor. If I dont buy a truck in the next month or so I will probably be getting a welder and a tube bender.

Thats cool Matt...skippin right past the TTB and goin for the SAS huh?
So what are your plans for the D44, radius arms or 4 link? I'm sure you'll be doing everything you want to do with the new rig that you've always wanted to do with the old rig.

Four link front and rear eventually. Still need to figure out where I will keep this truck when I get it. We already have 3 on the street two in driveway and one in the garage. The TTB might get a cut and turn job for fun but wont see gears or a locker.

i'm actually looking for a nice little ranger myself,

saw an early 90's 2wd with the 3.0 and a 5-speed for a daily driver cause i recently wrecked my car,

my brother sold his ranger last year 94 4x4 5spd and the 4.0 for 4 grand, i thought that was a good deal and it only had 106,000 miles on it,

i wish i would have bought it

Hey Matt,
I was thinking why not buy a 2wd Ranger in the yr(s) you are looking for and just build from there. Since you have a D44 already you could slam that in there. Then you could get a manual Ranger T-case and X-member from the boneyard pretty cheap. I think you'd be miles ahead of the game in time and effort and probably money too. Especially if you are going to mess around with the TTB that you're only gonna replace with the D44 you have now. Just thinking out loud though...i'm only thinking if I had to start over with what I know now, it would be so much easier. :p

To bad the one boomin posted is half way across the country. I thought about the 2wd idea but even though i have the 44 by the time i get gears lockers tires and all the other goodies it will be months down the line and I want to go out and start beating on what ever I get right away. Plus if I do the cut and turn job and what ever else to the suspension I can give it to my brother who has a 95 ranger and lift his. Bill I may have to take you up on the offer need to stop by sometime and see the new place and BS.

Matt, looking thru the Auto Trader, I see lots of fulsize Broncos in your price range. Why not get one and swap on a Ranger cab?!

I dont want the full width axles. The 44 I picked up is out of a wagoneer which is only a few inches wider then a ranger axle is. Plus I dont have the space to do a full on body swap. I also plan on using the ranger for a few months as a daily driver till I get all the parts to build it cause I am sick of beating the crap out of my new one hauling tools. I have scratched the bed up more in 5 months that I have owned it then i did in the 7 years I had my ranger. Also to get an efi bronco means ttb front and 8.8 rear and they have a different intake then the mustang so I'm not even sure if it would fit under a ranger hood unless you made the body mounts super high. I could spend more on a ranger but then it just takes money from getting a welder and all the parts and will take that much longer. Hopefully I can find something before thanksgiving.
