Removing Explorer thing

Is there a way to take off the thing on the back of the car that says explorer. Someone told me there would be holes there if I did

This was done by somebody on the boards about a year ago or maybe longer. I don't remember who but I remmember seeing pics after the guy was done. I think he used a heat gun, but I would search the site first.

Why would you want to take off the emblems that give your truck a name?

'98 and newer are only held on by tape. '97 and older have tape and pins.

I've heard of people using fishing line between the letters and the body to "cut" the double sided tape. And stuff(I don't know what) to remove the rest of the adhesive.

Yeah, I think taking the emblems off is stupid. If you are an Explorer enthusiast why would you not be proud of what you drive. Just a thought

ok so i decided to finally just try it myself, and hope for the best. I used the fishing line like people had said to do, and simple put it between the letter and car and kinda pulled on it till it got the letter off enough to just pull it. Once i got all the letters off, i spayed goo-gone on the tape letters, let it sit for a few minutes, sprayed it on again, and then used a rag to kinda push up the tape. Tape was a lot of work coming off, you had to kinda push it so that it would start to role up, and usually only got little pieces at a time. But it did work, and everything looks great, now i just need a good wax over it later this week when i get time, and it will be perfect. thanks for the help......SKINZ

I took my V8 emblems off of the side and replaced them w/ 5.0 emblems. I used a hot blow dryer and fishing line. Just heat the badge until it starts to loosen up, then pull the fishing line through the sticky part. I think i just used rubbing alcohol to take the excess tacky part off. Tedious work though...
